Written Android App Review
No matter if it is your first child or your fifth, having a baby is one of the most exciting times of your life. Everyday there is something new and different going on with your little bundle and our Android devices are allowing us a window into the womb like never before. Now instead of relying on books or other printed sources, Android apps like Pregnancy Assistant give us up to the minute facts and tips as well as pics showing us what life is like on the inside.
But, as with any other category, not all pregnancy Android apps are created equal. Some are fantastic while others fall just short of cheesy. Which category does the Pregnancy Assistant Android app fall into? Read our Android app review to find out.
Here’s how it works. Once you load the Pregnancy Assistant Android app onto your Android device, you will be promoted to enter your personal information. This allows the Android app to figure your due date and thus offer you the correct information for your pregnancy. If your dates are wrong, then the app won’t be on track with your pregnancy and the info you receive won’t make any sense.
When you’re all synced up you will see your basic pregnancy stats listed (such as week of your pregnancy, how big the baby should be and how much it should weigh) along with pictures of what your fetus looks like at that point. There are also some great facts listed with each week, letting you know what is going on developmentally as well as what you should be expecting in the weeks to come.
My only problem with the features of Pregnancy Assistant is that the English (or grammar as the case may be) isn’t always the best. This tends to make me a bit nervous when I think about accuracy of the information or reliability of the developer.
To me, the widget is the best feature of this Android app. I love how the pics of the baby are included right on the widget and how they change each week along with the week of your pregnancy. Having a widget is nothing new….it’s not even really anything special. But sometimes they are done exceptionally well and this happens to be one of those cases.
When you look at the individual features of Pregnancy Assistant the Android app looks great. It’s just that everything doesn’t add up to being a great overall Android app.
Here are the problems that I have:
- The grammar issue. This may not be a big deal to some, but it shows one of two things. A lack of attention to detail or a poor command of the English language. Either one of these issues could be a warning sign to a larger problem.
- Many of the weekly facts don’t make sense or don’t seem important. I’m not going to sit here and list them out for you, but the overall quality of the information could be much better.
- The permissions. There are a couple permission that ride along with this Android app that make me suspicious.
Now, any one of these issues on their own wouldn’t be that huge of a deal. But, when I look at the three of them together, it makes me wonder if the developer is really on the up and up. In truth, the app is okay and the pics are great, but there are really better choices out there.
