Written Android App Review
Don’t you hate it when you get caught in a police speed trap? Want to know ahead of time where the police are staked out, waiting with their radar guns to catch motorists? There’s an app for that on the Android Market! It’s called Trapster, produced by Reach Unlimited Corporation. Described as a “driver social network”, Trapster allows users to get alerts when they approach police speed traps, red light traffic cameras, reported accidents and more!
You’ll first have to setup an account online to get the most benefits from Trapster. This only takes a few minutes and is a must-have for the best usage experience in this free Android app. Basically, you can submit info to Trapster such as speed trap locations, accidents, red light camera info, and more. Then, other users can locate such data when planning their trip, or when driving (thanks to the built-in alerts). It’s a sweet set of features that works fairly well and is certainly useful for frequent commuters. There is even a “patrol line” map function that shows where other Trapster users have recently driven, helping you know how free of police radar guns a stretch of road is.
It’s suggested by the developers of Trapster that users use a mounted cell phone car charger when keeping Trapster running in their car. It constantly uses GPS data and this can be quite a battery drainer. Thus, a car charger really helps extend the use time of Trapster, thus helping avoid even more speed traps.
The layout of Trapster is pretty standard and relatively professional. It’s quite clean-appearing, especially when compared to the many ‘cluttered’ apps that appear in the Android Market. I didn’t have any problems browsing the app, even from my first time with Trapster. However, users that don’t have access to a data plan or constant wifi need not bother with Trapster. It requires an active connection to work, so users should take note of this!
With over 3.5 million speed traps reported to its extensive data base, Trapster is quite an impressive Android app. This and its large host of features really makes Trapster a wonderful choice for those wishing to avoid speeding tickets. Even better, it is available for free through the Android Market and doesn’t take up much memory. Multiple languages further help make this a solid radar app for all Android users!
