Stopango: Written Android App Review
Taxes, in-laws, and public transportation: We can’t think of anything that bothers us more than these three things, but unlike the first two, public transportation comes with a lot of benefits. If you’re like us, you use some kind of mass transit day-in and day-out, making Stopango, by the developer of the same name, an essential app for our daily convenience. The title brings us the timetables we need in our area, making it a breezy affair to log, save, and favorite our daily commute. We can even communicate with those in the neighborhood via the Radar tab, making Stopango more than just a minute-by-minute timetable wonder, but a social magnet as well.
Concept and Functionality
The basic idea behind Stopango is really quite simple: How convenient would it be if your phone offered you constantly updated timetables for the mass transit methods closest to you? In fact, that’s exactly what this Android app does! All a user need do is sign-up for a Stopango account, and then the app does the rest. Using geo-tagged location, Stopango will automatically determine what public transportation methods are in your area before heading to the Internet for to-the-minute timetable updates. These updates are arranged so as to be easy to use and even quicker to navigate, and can be favored across an entire route, or even just a single stop. In essence, this functionality allows you to corner and peg the routes and means you use day-in and day-out, saving you valuable time while on the go.
However, there are a few additional features that are equally as impressive within Stopango. For instance, if you’re looking for an alternate route in nearby, the app will happily offer up neighboring stop information. In addition, if you’d like to see what other users have to say in the area, simply tap the Radar button, and you’ll be given a full report of other users’ messages, obstruction notices, and place suggestions. All in all, it’s an incredibly tight bundle, and one we feel will fold directly into your travel style.
Best of all, Stopango comes completely integrated with the cloud. The app is available across all modern mobile phone platforms, in addition to a stellar desktop version which can be accessed in-browser. All of these units work in tandem, automatically updating each other when a change is made at either end. This means you can plan a route from your computer, and then seamlessly view it from your iPhone, Android, or Windows phone.
Best of all, Stopango is completely free in the Android Market. The app’s splendors can be enjoyed for a solid week, and afterward a basic $4.99 fee will be charged for a full 12-month subscription. In our eyes, that’s a small price to pay for an app that streamlines our daily struggles, and gets us where we’re going more quickly. All in all, Stopango earns a solid 4.5 stars, as well as a very hearty recommendation.
