SudokuPDQ: Written Android App Review
Here at Android Apps Review, we really like puzzle games. They’re what get our gears grinding. However, we also really like high stakes online games. This is why we’ve gambled so much of our live’s away on online poker—just kidding! But still, this unique taste combination means we’re especially vulnerable to what SudokuPDQ is offering. The app offers a unique twist on an old, puzzle classic, spicing it up with some great online play and a new mechanic. For our full review, you need only to slid on down below the break, too!
Concept and Gameplay
On the surface, the app appears to be yet another Sudoku title. It provides you with a board filled with numbers, and all of the same Sudoku rules apply to SudokuPDQ. The same number combinations are valid, and you’re going to need to be aware of some essential strategies. However, the aim here is completely different.
You aren’t trying to solve the puzzle, as the puzzle changes with each and ever round. Instead, you’re trying to score more points than your competing opponents. To do this, you’ll need to quickly and accurately place a single number in a single cell. This drastically cuts down on the number of solving mechanisms you’ll need to go through, and allows you to quicken the whole process. You place a number against the timer, and at the end of the round, the app tells you whether or not you’ve successfully placed it where it ought to go. If you have, you’ll get some solid points. If you haven’t you’re in the hole. As the rounds progress, players are ranked by speed and accuracy, providing a unique way to play Sudoku competitively. The game also comes with its own unique strategies which require you to get accustomed to them. All in all, it’s a cool combo!
Design and Graphics
We have to admit, SudokuPDQ looks pretty slick on our Android tablet, too. It’s got all the hallmarks of a classic casino game, rocking the felt and suede approach with hefty amounts of luxurious red. The interface itself is great: We had no problems picking up on how the game was meant to be controlled, and at the end of the day, we firmly believe it’s simple enough for just about anyone to pick up. Quality action!
Best of all, the app is completely free in the Android Market! If that’s not a reason to give it a go, then we don’t know what is! So if you’re a fan of either online competitions, Sudoku, or both, go ahead and download SudokuPDQ today. It has a lot to offer, especially for fans of either genres. And in our eyes, anything that adds a new twist to a very old classic is a winner in our eyes. Solid stuff, lads!
