Goal Defense: Written Android App Review
Every now and again an app comes along and just knocks our socks off. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does we make a real point to tell you about it. As such, may we introduce you kindly to Goal Defense by developer Dynamic Pixels. The app is an incredible twist on the age-old tower defense genre, and it comes with enough snark and content to put a smile on even the most hardened of gaming fanatics’ faces. All in all, you won’t want to miss this new Android hit, and the road to conquest begins with our full review of the title below!
Concept and Gameplay
The app, as stated, is a direct evolution of the tower and castle defense genres, that now ancient field first setup by the now classic Fieldrunners title for iOS. However, Goal Defense takes a very different, simple and brilliant approach to the action that we simply haven’t seen before: And we can not get enough of it.
Rather than guarding a castle, you’re instead charged with managing a sports goal, trophy, etc. You’ll need to position your various athletes around the field in such a way that they can effectively block, annoy, or otherwise hassle your opponents into not reaching the end goal. This goes on until you either beat the wave and earn the upgrades that come with it, or you fail the level and everything goes to pot. Overall, it’s an absolutely phenomenal idea, and we’re slightly jealous we didn’t think of it first.
The app comes with a mountain of sports-themed units, all of which make perfect sense in the way that they are used. Furthermore, each level offers a new and unique strategy challenge, as it’s fairly directly inspired by American Football—a sport known for its complex setups. Overall, you just can’t create an app with a better platform than Goal Defense.
Design and Graphics
Best of all, the title simply looks amazing on our Android phone. We experience no lag in the slightest, and the interface could not be simpler to wrangle. We enjoyed the process of placing our athletes, and we had no problems analyzing the strategies. Furthermore, we hardly found the game’s pacing off at all: A frequent complaint within the genre. Rather, we felt that new units and new ideas were introduced at a decent pace, keeping the game steady and entertaining the whole way through.
Did we mention the fact that Goal Defense is completely free? Well, it is: You won’t have to pay a single dime to enjoy what the application is offering. This makes it an incredible value, especially for those of us that are fond of the genre to begin with. And as the title arrives with stellar gameplay, incredible graphics, and a richness of depth, we can’t help but recommend what Goal Defense is packing to one and all. It’s a future classic for the Android platform, and we’d be willing to bet on it.
