Egnyte Enterprise: Written Android App Review
Cloud storage has been in the spotlight for quite some time now. Popular services like Dropbox and iCloud cater to the everyday techie, but what about businesses and corporations? Usually this clientele requires a higher level of security than what regular services can provide. Not only that, but the service has to be extremely reliable and easy-to-use.
Concept and Functionality:
The digital world can be our best friend or our greatest enemy. While a concept like cloud storage can be a blessing for those of us who need to backup files or share them with others, a single security breach could flip your personal and business world upside down.
We know security should always be a top priority for cloud services, but flexibility and ease of access are also necessities. This is especially true for businesses. People are relying less and less on email attachments and more on uploading documents to folders that everyone can view.
When you first open the Egnyte Enterprise app, you’re asked to create an account if you don’t already have one. The sign-up process is relatively painless, and they even offer a free 15 day trial. The best part is that you don’t need to submit any credit card information, which is fairly rare for a subscription-based service.
Navigating your way around Egnyte Enterprise is very simple, and there’s even a library of demo videos on their website. Seeing as this app and service is geared toward businesses and professionals, a shallow learning curve is imperative. The last thing you want to do is waste time teaching employees how to use a complicated app.
Uploading files is a breeze and there’s no limit to what type of file you can upload. The upload window also allows you to rename the file, add a comment, and select which folder your uploading to.
You can also bookmark folders for easy access right from the main screen. This is perfect for users who have a tendency to nest folders multiple levels deep.
Egnyte Enterprise has many features which will appeal to businesses and professionals. Numerous security measures are provided to make sure your account is as safe as possible. You can even choose to set a passcode along with your user account password for an added level of security.
You can also create new files within the app which will automatically be uploaded to the Egnyte cloud. This is an excellent feature because it eliminates quite a few creation and upload steps.
As a Nexus 7 user, I was pleased to discover that you can download files for off-line use. This is perfect for people who don’t always have a data connection.
From what I can tell, you can only upload individual files within the app. You can select multiple files to upload at one time, but you can’t select an entire folder. This is one feature which would be infinitely useful if you find the need to upload many files from your device.
While the Egnyte Enterprise app is free, the actual cloud storage service requires a subscription fee which differs with each feature package. If you’re a business owner or a professional, I highly encourage you to check out both the app and service. Remember, there’s a 15 day free trial which doesn’t require you to submit payment information.
