Bubblis: Written & Video Android App Review
Concept & Gameplay:
I love words, and when it comes to word games, I thought I’d seen it all. The Bubblis Android app proved me wrong without even breaking a sweat.
In Bubblis you control a puzzle board as bubbles with letters in them fall from the sky. The only way to unlock this game’s secrets is to spell out the right word on the right level by arranging the falling letters with care. Naturally, not every letter is useful. That’s where tenacity, skillful arranging and a little bit of language mojo goes a long way.
The Bubblis Android app has three levels of difficulty, and can be played in more than 40 global languages. Think you’re too cool to play in your native tongue? How about playing in Tagalog, German or Armenian?
Then there are the game’s bonuses and tricky bubbles. Playing in Advanced or Expert mode unlocks all kinds of cool attacks and boosts that will have you spelling frantically as you clear the screen using special bubbles and even your own breath. OpenFeint integration lets you keep track of achievements.
Needless to say, Bubblis is the kind of app that draws you in and hooks you from the very start. The varied levels make this a great title for gamers of all ages and abilities, without slowing down for advanced word-gamers.
Layout & Design:
So we know the concept is solid, but how does Bubblis look and play? This app has a bright, colorful motif, and plenty of different scenes for you to unlock and puzzle on as you progress through the game. I did run into a few issues with the game as it ran. Once it force closed, and it’s all too easy to exit the game accidentally when trying to navigate back a screen.
Otherwise, I found Bubblis to be a delight, even with the constant variety and level of challenge it presented. That was due in part to leaving the “Show Help” feature on. It’s a really big help to those who are new to the game. Some of the bad bubble effects are crazy, and can make it hard to play, but that’s the point. If you don’t like it, stick with beginner level play.
Bubblis is a complex app, and its price reflects that, without being burdensome. For $2 you can add this eclectic title to your app library, and you’re in for hours of fun. Give this game a try, and you’re bound to get hooked.
