MegaFlux: Written and Video Android App Review

We know we’ve mentioned it before, but honestly—we’re just about nuts for puzzle games. There’s nothing quite like having a good one in pocket to keep you engaged during a morning commute, or that lonely minute stuck in the queue. As such, we’re happy to introduce you today to one of our newfound favorites, MegaFlux by developer SoFresh Games. The one is a classic game concept revisited with new graphics and a wealth of twists and turns. Best of all, it’s a downright steal in the Google Play Store. For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!

Concept and Gameplay

For those not already familiar with the game, MegaFlux has the player rearranging a bunch of pipes in order to guide flux from the various generators into the processor somewhere else on the map. This might sound simple (or maybe it doesn’t) but we can assure you the end results are maddeningly difficult. And we love it!

Essentially, you will spend almost all of your time with the app twisting the piping this way and that in order to find the right flow that directs the traffic properly. Along the way you’ll also need to deal with various additional elements, such as color changing bends. You’ll need to accurately arrange the pipes so that those of a set color arrive at the correct end of the generator to pass the level. If that sounds like a good time out, and you don’t mind spending hours of your day figuring out the puzzle, then we heartily recommend the core concept at work here.

Design and Graphics

MegaFlux is overall a decent looking app, though we might not quite call it retro. Still, we’re willing to overlook some of the aesthetics here—we actually loved the colors, as an aside—in order to focus on the game design. We loved the fact that the app’s two game modes unlock new material for the editor, which allows you to fabricate your own puzzles. It’s a brilliant way to introduce new gameplay to the concept and keep the player going. That being said, we would like more levels in general. The game itself still feels a bit stilted, though we have high hopes that future updates will fix this with more game time.

Overall Value

And at the end of the day, who can argue with the bargain that the app puts up? It’s absolutely free, it’s a hell of a lot of fun, and it will keep your puzzling brain active and happy for many hours to come. All of that, of course, adds up to one solid recommendation from us, especially for those of you who have a similar bent on bending their brains as we do. All in all, MegaFlux is a solid application, and a notable entry into the genre.
