Island Live Wallpaper: Written Android App Review

Typically, we like to shy away from giving reviews of Android apps that aren’t . . . well, so much apps as additions to the Android platform. That being said, when one comes across our desk and so adequately snares our interest, we have to send a full review your way. With that in mind, today we’re presenting you with Island Live Wallpaper by developer Evgeny Sherkunov. It’s a free live wallpaper that looks gorgeous on almost every device, and it will have you absolutely salivating in your cubicle or in the queue. For our full review, you need only to slide on further down below the break!

Concept and Functionality

Unlike the iPhone, which tends to just leave everything on the home screen locked down, we Android users get to fill up our dashboard elements with interactive wonders, moving video, and whatever we bloody please. With that at the forefront, if you’ve ever used a live wallpaper before, then you already know how Island Live Wallpaper functions.

The “app” rests on your phone’s springboard, providing animations and pleasantries for you to look at every time you visit. In this case, Island Live Wallpaper gives you a rather good view of an island in the middle of the ocean, complete with swaying palm trees, animated water (in the premium version) and shooting stars. It’s a lovely combination, and the wallpaper will even change from night to day at the appropriate times. We love wallpapers that do this, specifically because we use our Android phone for business. Having that visceral passage of time is a nice way to remind us to leave the office and go see our families. Oh, and it looks fantastic, as well!

Design and Interface

As far as live wallpapers go, we have to admit, Island Live Wallpaper is perhaps one of the lightest. This doesn’t make sense, considering how good it looks, but it jammed right along on our HTC Evo Design. Furthermore, the attention to detail that’s been paid here is simply stunning. It’s like having a vacation poster on your phone, only it’s one that doesn’t just advertise the location—it makes you feel as if you’re there. And in a way, we suppose you are. Either way, it’s nice to be able to poke and prod the ocean when we visit our home screen in such a gorgeous fashion.

Overall Value

We assume we don’t have to say it, but we will anyway: Island Live Wallpaper is free on the Google Play Store. If that’s not a good enough reason to jump on that train, then we have no idea what will entice you. The app is free, good looking, and the near perfect compliment to your beach-bum inspired Android device.
