Ski the World: Written Android App Review
Being from the wonderfully snow, wild and otherwise outdoorsy state of Colorado, we really do love us some skiing. Snowboarding as well, for that matter. And no matter how you slice it, one of the absolute best bits about living in a ski area is being able to wake up in the morning, check the reports, and gauge how good the skiing will be. With that in mind, may we present our favorite new slope checker, Ski the World by developer TouriSpo. The app makes it incredibly simple and fun to not only look for your favorite ski destinations, but also for those all around the world. For our full review, though, you need only to slide on down the hill beyond the break.
Concept and Functionality
The central premise behind Ski the World looks something like this: Seeing as we enjoy looking at morning ski statistics so much, why not indulge that habit by allowing us to peep stats from all around the world? Why not throw open the doors to resorts out in Switzerland, Australia, or anywhere else that we’d like to look?
This is more or less exactly what Ski the World does. It gives you up-to-date information about resorts the globe over, including current weather, slope grade, snow height, powder quality, and even pricing. Want to know how good the skiing is in the Alps today? You can easily find out.
The real kicker here, though, is the app’s added ability to provide you with ski route maps, complete with ratings grades. With a touch of a button you can easily get a feel for an entire bevy of routes and trails at any resort. We enjoyed this quite a bit more than you might imagine, especially with the thought of an afternoon’s riding in our brains.
Design and Interface
In fact, our only real complaint with Ski the World is the fact that, at times, it feels as if it’s stretching itself a bit too thin. What we mean is this: When you decide to include all of the best ski resorts in the world, you’re obviously going to be crowding the app at least a little. The end result can be hard to sift through at times, especially if you’re looking for a smaller, regionally-based ski resort. Still, despite the fact that it often gets in the way, we’re still enamored with the option to see what the powder is like anywhere in the world.
And at the end of the day, Ski the World is completely free in the Google PlayStore, which makes it a fantastic addition to any powder monkey’s Android phone. Looking for a good way to stay up on your own slopes, as well as the world’s? There’s literally no better place to look than here.
Android Apps Review Details: Ski the World is FREE. This app requires Android 2.2+ and up. You may download Ski the World from the Android Market. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
