SpaceMOA 3D: Written Android App Review
This might not come as a surprise to you, but we happen to really like science fiction—Yeah, we know: Not a big surprise. Still, we’re suckers for anything that puts us in a spaceship, out amongst the stars, and blasting some baddies. If there’s anyway a puzzle element can be added into the mix, then we’re pretty much set to roll. Thankfully, SpaceMOA 3D by developer RobinT manages to do exactly all of this. The app is fun, inventive, and offers us all the spacefaring glory that we crave. Want our full review of SpaceMOA 3D? You need only to slide on down below the break.
Concept and Gameplay
The core concept behind SpaceMOA 3D looks something like this: You’re charged with protecting an alien princess as she slowly makes her way across the galaxy—emphasis on the slowly part. Along the way, you’ll need to ensure her safety by destroying enemies that get too close. How is this done? By using the game’s simple and easy-to-understand controls. Oh, as well as an entire arsenal of weapons. You have a variety of homing and regular missiles to choose from, and you’ll absolutely need to keep an eye on what you’re chucking out into the stars. If you’re wasteful or just not particularly cautious, you’ll quickly find yourself in a bind without any help.
If the princess is destroyed, it’s game over and you’ll need to restart the level. In this sense, the app uses a level layout similar to Angry Birds, but that’s where any and all comparisons end. The game is completely its own, totally unique, and much to our liking all the way around the galaxy.
Design and Graphics
Overall, we liked the spacefaring bits of the app quite a lot. What we mean is this: When you’re out blasting baddies and interacting with the universe, we hardly noticed the graphics. In fact, they’re quite good, in their own blocky way. However, the menus, icons and logos are just a tad too retro sci-fi for our taste. We know we’re picky, but if SpaceMOA 3D were to spruce up the menus and level pickers a bit, the end results—combined with the game’s already incredible soundtrack—would even out to one highly comprehensive outing.
Still, at the end of the day, we can hardly knock what SpaceMOA 3D is already packing. The game is completely free in the Google PlayStore, which is really reason number one to snag it. It’s a great time out, and if you’re a fan of either strategy games or science fiction, you’ll not come away disappointed. And as the series expands and improves, the gameplay here is only bound to get better. With that in mind, SpaceMOA 3D earns a solid recommendation from us.
