Wordsplosion: Written Android Game Review
I’ve mentioned in many reviews that I’m a huge fan of word games. They’re great for flexing brain muscles, challenging yourself, and gaming against friends. However, crosswords can get pretty boring after awhile. If you’re in the same boat as I am and you’re looking for an exhilarating new game, you won’t have to look any longer.
Wordsplosion, developed by Concrete Software, is a fun and addicting word game for Android devices. If you enjoy testing your knowledge while racing against the clock, this is the perfect game for you!
Concept and Gameplay:
I love games that pit you against the clock. Not only do they test your speed and reaction time, but also your ability to make split-second decisions and think under stress. Wordsplosion definitely fits this description. It’s incredibly easy to learn how to play Wordsplosion, but don’t let that fool you. This is a game which will continue to challenge you for as long as you play it.
Wordsplosion sports a beautiful design and very impressive graphics. The game looks nothing short of amazing on my Nexus 7, which is always refreshing. To play, all you have to do is guess the five letter word on the screen. Correct letters remain, but incorrect letters are tossed from the word and disabled on the game’s keyboard.
Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Only if you can guess the word in less than 5 attempts and before the timer runs out. If you happen to guess the correct letter(s) but they’re in the wrong spot, you can re-arrange them for another guess.
Along with lightning fast gameplay, Wordsplosion has a few helpful features. First, the game only uses five letter words, so you can focus on a very specific group of words. This definitely helps with solving words quickly. Also, Wordsplosion’s dictionary contains every known five letter English word.
In’s inevitable that you’ll get stuck at some point in the game, so hints are definitely your best friend. What’s unique about hints in Wordsplosion is that they’re performance-based, meaning you’ll earn hints based on the number of consecutive correct answers.
While part of me wishes there were more than five letter words in Wordsplosion, I can see the benefit of focusing on a certain number of letters. However, if there’s one suggestion I could make as far as gameplay, it would be the ability to choose between lengths of words. Three and four letter words, while fairly easy, would allow you to practice. If you’re feeling extra gutsy, six and seven letter words would definitely make you break a sweat.
You certainly can’t beat the value of a free game, but one that’s as well designed and fun to play as Wordsplosion is definitely hard to come by. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this great new word game, nor can I stop playing it. If ads aren’t your thing, you can easily disable them via in-app purchase.
Android Apps Review Details: Wordsplosion is FREE and requires Android 2.2+. You can download it from Google Play. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
