SpaceAlarm: Written Android App Review
What’s the most important part of your day? You’re probably thinking breakfast—or if you’re like us, that hockey game that’s coming on later tonight. But if that’s where your mind is, you’re not quite right. You see, if you don’t get up at the appropriate time each day, what good is anything else? This is why we’re offering up a full and unbiased review of SpaceAlarm today. The Android application provides a unique and inventive way to set, sleep and dismiss daily alarms. It’s cool, trendy, and it happens to look gorgeous on the Android platform. For our full review of SpaceAlarm, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
The basic idea behind SpaceAlarm looks something like this: What if you ditched the standard sort of ticker-tape alarm clock setup—you know, like the HTC variety—in favor of something a little more inventive. What if you could use nothing but intuitive touch controls to setup and run your life’s alarms?
With SpaceAlarm, you can do exactly that! For instance, the app allows you to set the waking time by dragging both the minute and hour hands into place. Have it set where you want it? Great! Now use those gorgeous touch-based wheels at the bottom to tick on the days of the week you’d like the alarm to use. When all of that is finished, lock it up and wake up later! To snooze the alarm, hold it for a second. To dismiss it, hold it for two. It’s simple, effective, and when you get the hang of it, exceptionally easy to manage. Just like an alarm should be.
Design and Layout
Now, obviously the design of the app is part of its allure. And we have to admit, it does look pretty great. The animations are smooth, the designs fluid, and the colors vibrant. As the name might suggest, there’s very much a “space” theme running throughout the concept here. Overall, we have very few complaints with the layout. In fact, our only real niggle is that the whole thing is very spartan. Not terribly so—it’s an aesthetic, to be sure—but it reminds us a bit more of those red LED alarms than it does space.
Still, considering it costs absolutely nothing to use SpaceAlarm directly from the Google Play Store, it’d be hard not to recommend it. If you’re looking for a new app to wake you up in the morning and get you going—with a little bit of flair thrown in—then this is a solid option for your needs. It looks good, it’s intuitive, and at the right setting, it will certainly get you up in the morning. Just what the doctor ordered!
