Concept and Gameplay
Imagine you’re a dog who is out for a casual stroll. All seems right in the world, but suddenly you’re being bombarded by flying squirrels and other malicious creatures. Your town is being invaded by wildlife, and it’s up to you to stop them.
Though the idea of the game might be simple, Dog Rush is anything but. The goal of the game is to guide your unsuspecting pooch over and under obstacles while dodging and defeating the invading animals.
You’ll collect objects such as bones and steaks, which can be exchanged for helmets and footballs. The helmet is meant to protect you in case of collision, and footballs can be fired at enemy critters.
In terms of gameplay, it does take awhile to get used to the feel of Dog Rush. Learning the controls is pretty easy, as all you have to do is swipe your finger up to jump, down to duck, and diagonally to do either at an accelerated rate. I will admit that it does get incredibly difficult at some points in each level, and it’s tough to complete. However, a bit of perseverance usually pays off.
Dog Rush includes 50 free levels to try and zip through, and it seems like they drastically increase in difficulty as you progress through the game. According to the game’s Google Play page, new levels will be regularly added to Dog Rush. This is excellent news for anyone who has a tendency to blast through level-based games rather quickly.
Users can connect their Google Play Games account with Dog Rush, which allows you to view and track game leaderboards. Though this does make the game a bit more entertaining in terms of being able to compete with other players around the world, As far as recommendations go, I’d like to see achievements added simply because it can be such a difficult game to play.
Dog Rush is available to download from Google Play for free, but it includes an in-app purchase to disable ads. While the ads aren’t terribly annoying, some of them do have a tendency to take up the entire screen.
Overall, Dog Rush is a decent free game to try if you’re looking for something new and challenging to play. Dynamic controls give you quite a bit of an edge over your environment, and the ability to earn items and outfit your dog with protective gear and ammo adds a pleasant dose of humor to the game.
Dog Rush requires Android 4.0+. You can download it from Google Play. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
