If you’re like us, you spend a whole lot of your time playing the latest arcade craze for the Android platform. You’ll take whole hours to peg away at it, trying to best your high score, achieve that next level, or just blast your way onto the global leader boards. Well, if that’s what you’re in for, then you might want to saddle up with Digging Deep: Tap the Blocks, from Bitrealms Studio.
The game is simple, addictive, and endlessly rewarding, thanks to an ever-changing landscape. And if you’re in the mood for a new challenge, it has just enough kick to keep us interested. For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Graphics
The central ideas behind Digging Deep: Tap the Blocks are actually all in the title. As the protagonist (we call him the “demon cow”) you’ll need to blast your way through stacks of blocks, aiming for diamonds and other rewards whilst avoiding any spiky obstacles. You’ll do this using the arrow keys at the bottom of the application.
And that’s it! That’s all you need to know to get rolling with Digging Deep. From here, it’s all smaller points of interest, though ones that will certainly take you a while to master.
For instance, to score the highest amount of points possible you’ll want to stay well ahead of the time limit. However, this is quite hard if you get stuck between lots of difficult, plant-filled blocks. Or worse, a whole lot of pointy blocks. In order to circumvent this, you’ll need to aim for small hourglasses that renew your time. But you’ll need to avoid other, higher-scoring objects to do this, too.
All in all, it’s quite a challenge. And with a continuously regenerated, random environment at the wheel, it is always a fresh one, too.
Design and Graphics
It helps Digging Deep’s case immensely that it looks as good as it does. In fact, the graphics here are much better than we’d expect from a smaller puzzle / action game. The cartoon-ish appeal is more than enough to whet our appetite for more. Likewise, the ever-changing layout of each level makes for acres and acres of replay value.
All in all, we’d be hard-pressed to find sticky points within the game’s looks.
It’s hard to find too much wrong with what Digging Deep is offering. The game would benefit from some additional gameplay options to avoid becoming tiresome after some extended play, and based on what we’ve already seen, we’re anxious to see what the developers come up with in future updates.
No need to delay downloading this one, though, the current version’s offering of great graphics, easy controls and free price tag are more than enough to make it well worth it.
If you’re looking for a brand new action puzzler to spend a couple (or many, many) hours with on the Android platform, you can hardly do better than Digging Deep. It’s a stellar title, and one that won’t cost you a dime to play.
Digging Deep: Tap The Blocks requires Android 2.3.3 and up. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
