Workout Goals is perfect for those who frequently workout and want to use technology to achieve better results.
This app is loaded with tons of features that are attractive to athletes. These include the basics of keeping track of all of your workouts, as well as the key fitness elements in each of those workouts.
Workout Goals tracks the amount of calories burned, distance gained, and speed, as well as location (via your phone’s GPS) and elevation gain or loss.
It allows you to input data directly relating to your fitness goal (e.g. lose 5 lbs) and calculates the amount of calories required to lose the weight on a weekly basis (e.g. 0.25 lbs lost per week for 5 months).
This app is even compatible with Bluetooth-enabled heart rate monitors, but have no fear if you don’t own a heart rate monitor. Workout Goals allows the user to also select their workout type and its corresponding METS (or metabolic equivalents).
The amount of thought that has gone into making this app is certainly evident when one looks at the immense list of workout options, ranging from various gym-based workouts (including video game workouts like with the Wii Fit) to running workouts (even including options like “Pushing a Wheelchair or Baby Carrier”).
You can schedule in the workouts for your week and Workout Goals will notify you in the morning of the workouts you have scheduled for later that day.
For all of the stats gurus, Workout Goals shows a detailed chart allowing you to see your projected goal, your actual progress in reaching it, and even your total distance and calories burned.
It also allows you to export your GPS tracks from your runs to either a KML or GPX file for viewing on programs like Google Earth, making it a breeze to share your routes with pals who aren’t using Workout Goals by simply emailing them the file.
However, it’s much easier to find routes from people that are using Workout Goals, because all you need to do is search through shared route on the built-in map and find what’s nearby.
Another unique feature in Workout Goals is the ability for you to take pictures along your routes which can be viewed when you look back at your old routes.
Overall, the features included in Workout Goals are incredible and have been implemented well.
Appearance and Layout
The layout of Workout Goals is pretty straight forward, you simply input the data required in each of the fields requested, and move on to the next step.
After the initial background info (e.g. height, weight, gender) is filled in, you can optimize the app to suite your workout needs.
The options are vast (almost too many for the average person, as this app is extremely detailed), but if you get stumped on something, there is an easily accessibly Help menu that will assist you in figuring out the variety of options.
The appearance is minty clean and crisp with the user-filled fields in a calm blue color of font to differentiate from the other fields of text.
Overall, Workout Goals looks and feels great.
Workout Goals is free to download, but it does have occasional Google Play ads.
The ads don’t detract from the app at all, and for a free app that is one of the most precise, detailed workout apps on the market, Workout Goals certainly deserves a download (after all, it’s only 2.1 MB).
While it may be a bit of an overkill for someone just wanting to exercise without needing tons of data and feedback for each of their workouts, Workout Goals definitely meets the demands of just about everyone breaking a sweat, from beginner athletes to professionals.
