In Caramba! you’ll be trying to make a living by going door to door among apartment complexes, all the while trying to avoid the security guard.
Ever want to see what it’d be like to become a traveling salesman?
With Caramba!, the world (or at least, the apartment block) is your oyster – so go now and sell your wares and with skill and some luck you’ll survive.
Like many other Android games, Caramba! is particularly challenging but after you get the hang of playing it, Caramba! is fun and addicting.
Caramba! features a timer that slowly counts down for each level, thereby making each level (or attempt) fairly quick.
You’ll need a bit of craftiness to play, as you try to hide from the security guard who randomly walks around checking on each room.
Since the security guard seems to walk in a random pattern every time, some failed attempts are just a result of being unlucky, while other times you can maneuver around him easily.
To move around in Caramba!, the player only has to tap one of the four movement keys (up or down arrows to take the elevator up or down, left or right arrows to move the salesman left or right on each floor), as well as the elevator call button.
Whenever the security guard catches the salesman or the time runs out, the player somehow ends up in the hospital (according to a message popup). and has to start over.
The player has 3 lives, and once they are all gone, you have to start over again.
Overall, Caramba is purely an addicting game that is strangely similar to constantly rolling a dice.
Appearance and Layout
The appearance of Caramba! is a lively apartment tower with soothing colors and enough animations to make the world “feel” alive.
With character models that are drawn well and a simple pleasing layout, we have to say this simple side-scrolling game looks fantastic.
The layout is almost too simple, however, with only the directional arrow keys and no tutorial, but it does have scrolling credits every time the player loses all three of his “lives.”
Overall, Caramba! might be improved with the addition of a simple tutorial explaining how the game operates and a filter on the randomness of the guard movements to emphasize more skill and less chance in staying alive.
For those loving challenging games involving a bit of random chance, Caramba! is a perfect value – it’s free, has zero ads, and it’s only 7.8 MB.
However, for those who want something with more substance, Caramba! might not be the game for you, but go ahead and give it a try. This is a solid “pick up and play” game.
If you feel like you are saying ¡Ay, Caramba! too much, no worries – you’re like the rest of us.
Caramba! requires Android 2.3 and up. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
