Security should be your number one priority when it comes to your Android device. From setting passcodes to making sure your device doesn’t fall into the wrong hands, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
Hexlock is an incredibly useful and easy-to-use app locker for Android that lets users create different profiles for different locations or circumstances.
Developed by Liquidum Limited, this awesome free app is perfect for making sure your apps stay safe no matter where you are or who else, such as your kids, may be using your phone or tablet.
Concept and Functionality
Hexlock aims to help users secure their apps, photo gallery, sms, mail, Facebook and more without having to lock down their entire device. This is accomplished by creating and maintaining up to six unique profiles for environments such as home, work, school, the café, vacation, and more.
Setting up Hexlock is incredibly easy. All you have to do is choose whether to secure apps with a passcode or a pattern. Once that’s complete, you can start customizing profiles and toggling which apps to lock.
Personally I found the setup process to be incredibly intuitive and easy, so you won’t have any issues with getting everything squared.
Once you’ve set up your profiles, you can test the functionality of Hexlock by trying to open them. You’ll notice that the app doesn’t outright bar you from opening a protected app like many other app lockers do. Instead, you’ll be prompted for your passcode or pattern.
You’re probably thinking that Hexlock is just another app that requires you to remember to do one more thing like switch profiles, and you’ll never remember to do it. Luckily the app comes with an awesome feature that automatically switches profiles based on being near a known wifi network.
Hexlock also includes an option to protect itself from being uninstalled by unauthorized users. This is perfect for anyone who shares their device and is worried about people trying to get around the app’s protective measures.
Hexlock is available to download from Google Play for free, which is always a fantastic price. According to the app’s Google Play page, it does offer in-app purchases but I couldn’t find anything that required it on my Nexus 7.
Overall, if you’re looking for a way to protect apps or implement parental controls on your Android device without locking the whole thing down, Hexlock is definitely the best choice available.
Not only is it incredibly easy to use, but it offers peace of mind so you know your apps will be safe no matter where you are.
Hexlock requires Android 4.0.3+. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
