Howler is a unique and innovative app for the Android that offers a completely new style of communication.
Developed by Antigravity, LLC., Howler lets you literally read what those around you are thinking (provided that they too are also using Howler and are typing in their thoughts).
Howler is so interesting because it opens up new avenues of communication.
Imagine sending out a tweet but instead of it going to your followers it goes to anyone using the same app who are, more or less, near you.
It’s a very cool way to share thoughts and would be lot’s of fun to see what others are thinking at an event, concert, festival, or any social gathering.
If you’ve ever wanted to get your thoughts out there and not have to worry about what people think, check it out and send those vibes out into the Howler world.
Howler has several great features packed into its unique communication app.
You can type your thoughts out and send them into Howler, allowing others around you to read them. You can also receive comments from other users and watch as the chains of thought flow along your screen.
One of our favorite parts about Howler is that you can change the radius in which you can send comments or receive other users’ comments. This radius can be anywhere from as close as 50 metres to as far away as 2500 km (~1553.5 miles).
Another part that we loved about Howler is that you do not need to make an account in order to use it. Forget about having to tap through numerous menus just to use an app, because Howler is all about simplicity – just use it!
Overall, Howler is pretty compelling since it will let you jot your thoughts down and have some random person comment on them.
Appearance and Layout
The appearance of Howler is an overarching calmingly blue appearance that goes along with it’s Howler “blue whale-esque communication” theme.
The app looks smooth and polished (although it does have several typos), and the layout of Howler is super easy to use. Swipe from the bottom to the top to pull up the keyboard, swipe left to right for the menu, and swipe right to left to view the chats.
Overall, Howler is a well-made app that looks good and is easy to use.
The value of Howler is great since it’s completely free and it can open up new levels in your chat life.
It does seem to be predominantly used by younger people, so don’t be surprised to see random amateurish thoughts appear.
As with any new social platform, Howler doesn’t seem to have too many users actively on it yet. The full value of any social app is in its broad use so hopefully it will go viral and the whole world will be using Howler to broadcast their innermost thoughts.
Overall, at 5.2 MB MB, Howler is a light download and it’s fun to chat with, so tell your friends about it, check it out and help Howler’s user base grow.
Howler requires Android 2.3 and up. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
