Throughout the years, there’s really only one thing we find ourselves envying iOS users for having: solid, robust creative tools that just work.
Now, this isn’t the early days of Android anymore. There are options out there that can do almost everything an iPhone or iPad can. However, it’s not often easy to locate these tools, and sometimes even harder to get them to work.
Which is why we’re so happy to introduce you today to a top notch video app.
VideoPad Master’s Edition is a clear, concise and effective way to edit video on your Android device. For once, it’s a video editing tool that manages to deliver on its promises, and is just about as easy to use as you’d like.
Concept and Functionality
As you might expect from that intro, VideoPad Master’s Edition, from NCH Software, attempts to help you edit, patch, and otherwise produce full, high-quality videos on your Android device.
If you’re familiar with the desktop application by the same name, you’ll know what to expect here. For those without that foreknowledge, think of it as an iMovie equivalent for Android.
Within the package, you’ll find a few staples of the genre: A big scrubber pad for the audio beneath your videos (quite literally) as well as a similar option along the top to mange the video itself.
Like its iOS competitor, you will add video in chunks, which can then be subdivided to provide transitions or effects. Likewise, you are free to trim and select only the parts you want.
All told, it’s a robust experience, especially considering your only means of input is a finger or two. We had no problems uploading the video clips we wanted, cutting them down to size, and then slicing in some transitions and other effects.
The end results were always exactly what we needed, and they even looked better thanks to those built-in effects.
If you’ve wanted it in an Android video editing platform, we can almost guarantee that VideoPad Master’s Edition has it.
Design and Controls
Of course, here’s where things really hit the fan for VideoPad Master’s Edition. The crossroads (if you will) comes in the application’s design. After all, a video editing suite isn’t much help if it’s too cumbersome to navigate.
Thankfully, we can report that VideoPad Master’s Edition manages to do most of what it does with ease. Is it full-proof, though? Well, not entirely.
However, it’s not entirely the applications fault. In our experience, trimming, editing and splicing video on a touch device is often a bit . . . weird. It’s inherently harder to manage without a mouse. And though VideoPad Master’s Edition has been designed with an interface that’s simultaneously inviting and relatively easy to use, there are still cumbersome moments.
That being said, we have not had nearly as many problems as some users have reported. Quite the contrary, we have deeply enjoyed our time with the application, and we’re not sure a better alternative even exists.
As far as we’re concerned, this is the best video editing platform available for Android users today.
The price tag is steep (for an app) at just under $15, but VideoPad Master’s Edition is absolutely worth every penny. If you’re a frequent video editor, you will absolutely get your money’s worth — and then some!
It’s also worth noting that there is a free version available for those who want to “try before they buy”.
VideoPad Master’s Edition requires Android version 2.3.3+. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
