Here at the Android Apps Review, we’ve seen a whole lot of photo sharing applications over the years. However, we’ve never seen anything quite like SWISH.
It’s not a social media app, nor is it an app designed to help you find swinging singles in your area. So what kind of photos are we sharing here?
The answer is: Whatever photos you want!
Swish is lots of fun and surprisingly addictive. It lets you easily share photos with random users around the world, instantly and without having to hunt through a phone book.
Think of it as instantaneous pen pal letter writing, except through photos and with people anywhere on earth.
If that’s got you interested, then keep reading for our full review!
Concept and Functionality
As stated, the idea behind Swish, from Yooii Studios, is certainly unique, but doesn’t take much time to explain: You can snap a photo, and then immediately send it to an anonymous user somewhere else in the world. It is that simple.
So you might take a photo your kitten in the morning, and by lunch you’ll have a response from Japan. Or possibly Sweden. Or even right next door. That’s the fun of this app, you just never know!
As a rule, we don’t tend to “get” SnapChat here at the office. However, we do get what Swish is putting down, and we feel like that’s meaningful. I have an easier time understanding what the app has to offer me.
Using built-in chat features, I can follow up with connections made, which makes the experience much more meaningful. Not only do I get to enjoy a snapshot of their day-to-day life, but I can even increase the enjoyment by pursuing a conversation.
Swish does a lot to explore this side of things, and we appreciate the effort. The app will track where your responses have come from. In an instant you can see where everyone is: a much more gratifying tool than you might think.
Design and Interface
Usually with these photo sharing applications, we tend to rag on the interface. However, you won’t find any coasting here: This is not an app that’s eager to cash in on other’s successes. Rather, Swish sets out on its own wings, and the results are every bit as pleasing to the eye as they are to the heart.
The interface is bright and simple to understand. Using simple icons (like a heart, broken and unbroken, for “likes”) absolutely anyone can interface with the app. Better still, the organization could not be better. We had no problems sifting through the details, and keeping our interactions alive certainly wasn’t a burden.
At the end of the day, clearly a lot of effort has been put into making this app clean, easy to use, and meaningful in your every day life. The end result is a title that’s every bit as good as you want it to be, and does exactly what it promises on the tin.
If you’ve been wanting to expand your friendly network to others across the world, we can’t think of a better way to get it done than Swish.
SWISH requires Android version 4.1+. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
