YouMail Visual Voicemail is an impressive multi-functional and easy-to-use Voicemail app for Android devices.
Developed by Youmail Inc., Visual Voicemail is essentially an automated receptionist for your Android phone.
Unlike stock Android voicemail applications, Youmail’s Visual Voicemail can let you permanently block telemarketers, get a bigger voicemail inbox, offers a huge selection of free personal and business greetings, and allows more recording time than your carrier’s voicemail.
Youmail Visual Voicemail is loaded with enhanced voicemail features that place it a step above your typical Android voicemail app.
With Youmail one can easily check his or her voicemail on their Android phone or their tablet and computer browser when they are away from their phone. This is especially helpful when traveling abroad.
Users can set up a Smart Greeting, a greeting that addresses callers by their name followed by your name. A bit robotic, and it certainly depends on how professional your callers have set up their name as (e.g. usernames instead of real names), but it does add a nice element of variety for callers instead of the typical “You have reached the voicemail box of ____.”
Youmail also includes the option of permanently blocking calls from those irritating telemarketers, ex-boyfriends, robocallers, and others you deem unworthy of your time.
Like other voicemail apps, Youmail Visual Voicemail lets you see the Caller ID of the people of whose calls you missed, and allows you to forward and share the voicemails (send them via email or share on Facebook and Twitter).
There are several optional upgrades that really make it far more usable than the other voicemail apps on the Google marketplace. Options in the Premium Plan include: Voicemail Transcription which lets you read your voicemail in the app, via an email, or an SMS, as well as the option to have human-edited Voice to Text.
Other optional upgrades include a larger voicemail inbox (up to 500 messages), Youmail’s Privacy Guard Protection, visual caller ID, and a dedicated voicemail number.
The Youmail Business Plan, another optional upgrade, allows even more upgrades to the app. These include a Smart Business Greeting that addresses callers by name and states your business; Auto-Reply to missed calls via a text and add in a link to your personal website, Live Connect that presents call routing choice to callers, as well as auto-forwarding messages.
Overall, we enjoyed using Youmail Visual Voicemail and think that their Business Plan upgrade would be great for businesses that operate on a more remote basis (e.g. from a home or those constantly traveling instead of a normal office with its own landlines or VoIP program).
The free features in Youmail Visual Voicemail are great for the casual user and we loved its call-blocking feature.
Note from Youmail: Users must activate Youmail Visual Voicemail and forward missed calls to YouMail instead of your mobile carrier. If YouMail doesn’t fit your needs, you MUST de-activate YouMail BEFORE you delete the app, otherwise your voicemail will NOT be re-routed back to your carrier. Uninstall Instructions.
Appearance and Layout
Youmail Visual Voicemail is pleasant looking with an easy-going blueish color scheme and simple, understandable icons.
The layout is simply designed, and the text is easy to read. Simply tap on the messages you’d like to hear. More advanced options can be found in the dropdown menu in the upper left, which is also where deactivation can be chosen.
Youmail Visual Voicemail is free to download with several optional upgrades that users can purchase. The Premium Plan is $5/month or $50/year and the Business Plan is $10/month or $100/year. An optional addon for both is the Human-Edited Voice to Text option which ranges from $4.99/month (for 20 Human-Edited VtT messages/month) up to $39.99/month (for unlimited Human-Edited VtT messages/month).
For professional users, Youmail Visual Voicemail might be cheaper to use than landline office services, with the added bonus that it keeps electronic copies of voicemails (in a text format).
Visual Voicemail requirements vary with device. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
