Stand By You is a beautifully crafted post-apocalyptic visual novel that truly entertains and amazes.

Developed by Water Phoenix Co. Ltd., Stand By You is a tap-through (sequential) story app that follows the life of a high school student who wakes up to find a vastly different world than the one he remembers.

Filled with fascinating dialogue and art, Stand By You draws the reader in with its fascinating and highly unique storyline.

Stand By You features about 3 to 5 hours of story that is written in English as a first person narrative with a peaceful ambient soundtrack that varies with the chapters.

The story itself in Stand By You is quite interesting as it mixes the post-apocalyptic genre with a messianic figure who appears shrouded in mystery.

Stand By You is a tap-through visual novel, which means that the reader needs to tap the screen to progress the story, and includes various ways that users can control the speed of the text (e.g. swiping right to left fast forwards the story, swiping downward displays the text history, tapping with three fingers skips forward through the text, and tapping longer than a second auto scrolls the text).

After reading each box of text, users can move the story forward by simply tapping on the screen. Users can also pause and resume the story by tapping the corresponding buttons on the text window.

We highly recommend all users to read the Operating Manual before reading the story.

Besides simply reading the story, users can also choose to listen to the musical soundtrack (tap Listen to Music) or view the different artwork (tap View CG) by tapping the appropriate buttons on the main Title screen.

One thing we noticed is that because the app uses the full screen and doesn’t include any easily discernible Exit option, users on devices with only on-screen Home and Back buttons for their device might have a difficult time minimizing the app.

Stand by You Android App

Overall, we enjoyed reading through Stand By You and found it to be a remarkably well-written visual fiction novel.

Appearance and Layout

Stand By You has incredible artwork that acts as the background to the text, and is very aesthetically pleasing.

The text font is very simple to read and similar to that of oldschool RPGs, but users can change the speed of the text if it feels too slow.

The layout of Stand By You is wonderfully suited for a visual sequential Android novel, although we would have preferred an easier way to exit or minimize the app from within the story.

Stand By You costs $4.99 on the Google Play Store and has an average of 4 hours of playability.

While limited in its replayability, as there are no branching story options to choose from, users can continue to listen to its soundtrack or view the artwork.

Overall, we enjoyed reading Stand By You and found the story to be intriguing and delightful to read.

Whether or not it’s worth $4.99 is up to the user, but we particularly liked the well-drawn artwork and the interesting plot that the story contains.

Stand By You requires Android 2.3 and up, and at least 1GB of memory.
