Written Android App Review
In Majesty: Fantasy Kingdom Sim for Android, you play the character of Raynald II, son of King of Ardania, Raynald I. The king has died and you have just been crowned the new king. However, before dying, King Raynald I decreed that rats are holy animals and should be fed and cared for, outlawing any harming or killing of the rodents. The kingdom is quickly overrun with rats and you, the new King, are left to deal with the aftermath.
Gameplay:
This Android app game is similar to other strategy games such as Warcraft or Might and Magic. The biggest difference is that Majesty also incorporates “Sim” behaviors. In other words, each character moves independently and of its own accord. The only way to get them to do what you want is to essentially “bribe” them by placing markers over a mob’s head or over a lair, offering a monetary reward for destroying whatever the marker is hovering over. Obviously, the bigger the bribe, the more likely you are to succeed in getting the desired response.

As with other strategy games, the player must build and upgrade buildings, troops and the Kingdom. However, money is not earned in the same fashion. Instead of running around harvesting wood, stone and gold, a tax collector makes the rounds to each building and collects. Money is also made when characters buy new equipment, weapons, potions, rings and more. The marketplace is a sure-fire way to earn some card, hold cash quickly – especially when using the “Market Day” feature.
The game follows a storyline which changes slightly with each level. For instance, after dealing with the rat problem in level one, the player now has to fight goblins in level two because rats were the goblin’s food source. Since you killed the rats, the goblins now have no food and are attacking your Kingdom. This type of shifting storyline helps hold interest and pique curiosity as to what the next level will hold.
Re-playability:
Another feature of Majesty: Fantasy Kingdom Sim is achievements. These can be earned through high scores but there are also unique awards. For instance, while playing level two, I received a message stating I had won the achievement “Bane of Goblins” for killing 100 goblins. Cool. There seem to be hundreds of potential achievements to unlock. As such, this gives the game amazing re-playability.
Graphics:
While this game is remarkably similar to others in its genre, the Sim feature sets it apart from the rest and lends a unique twist on strategy RPG’s. Thankfully the graphics aren’t terrible and the menu system is actually quite nice once you get the hang of it. I tried this game on both my Motorola Droid and my ADAM 10” tablet (Android OS). While it plays fine on the Droid, I much preferred this game on the tablet simply because of the complexity of the game and menus. If you can play this on a larger screen, I highly recommend you do so.
Value:
Majesty comes in a bit higher priced than most other Android games at $3.28. Regardless, this is a relatively low price for a game which will issue hours of challenges and fun. There is a “Lite” version as well which is free, but be forewarned it is only a demo. My only complaint is the need for more levels. Hopefully more will be released in the future. In the meantime, I suggest attempting to gain all of the achievements to pass the time.
