Written Android App Review
I suppose after reading the description posted on Android’s marketplace, I should have steered clear of this app, but it received good reviews so I decided to give it a shot. The poorly written Engrish (no, that is not a typo) description states, “guard your home by kill these zombies all… Toss the bomb like what you do in Paper Toss… Toss bombs to kill zombies. Guard your home by kill these zombies all. And survive in the following 50 days and nights.” Really? May I just hang myself now please? Perhaps I’ll just throw a bomb at the author because clearly a zombie wrote this. I suppose my second clue this game would suck should have been the comparison to Paper Toss. But I digress – on with the review.
Gameplay:
The premise of the game is that your home is being attacked by zombies and you must fend them off by hurling bombs at them. Your home is at the bottom of the screen and the zombies dig up out of the earth at the top end of the screen and slowly march their way down to your house. If they make it there, they will begin gnawing at the fence and house until it destroyed. When zombies are killed, they drop coins and gems which the user must touch to pick up or else the zombies will eat them and recover health. This is an incredibly annoying feature – especially when the zombies are all stacked together and you can’t pick up the drops fast enough.
Bomb Toss
There are four types of bombs: a standard bomb, a freezing bomb, a timer bomb and a nuke bomb. I found switching between the bombs nearly impossible and often wasted several seconds trying to get a different bomb to select. Meanwhile the zombies are approaching and I’ve lost valuable time. This definitely needs improvement. At the end of each round, which is one day/night cycle, you receive a skill point. These points are used to upgrade the bombs, which is critical to moving forward in the game.
The standard bomb is what gets thrown most often and has no time delay to throw another one. It is vital to upgrade the standard bomb since this is the primary bomb used. I recommend focusing on damage since cool down is not an issue.
The freezing bomb does just that – it freezes the zombies momentarily, allowing the player to deal damage while they can’t move. This one is best to upgrade the amount of time frozen, then focus on cool down time.
The time delay bomb is similar to a grenade. You throw it then wait for it to explode. I found it difficult to get the timing right on this particular bomb. It has a very long cool down time as well, so it is best to start upgrading that first – that way if you mess up with the throw, there is less time to wait to throw another one.
The nuke bomb (which looks like a pineapple for some strange reason) is a massive area of effect bomb. Throwing one of these will devastate any zombie near it. This is another one I recommend upgrading the cool down time on first.
Graphics:
Honestly, I was somewhat surprised the graphics were as good as they are considering the terrible Engrish. The zombies are cute but creepy at the same time and they even attempt to dodge the bombs (this part isn’t very realistic, however, as we all know zombies have no brains and therefore no processing power to think to dodge). The damage is shown by a small health bar that appears above each zombie’s head and drops as they get hit. The death effect is quite amusing as well – they turn black and crumble to ashes. Huzzah!
Value:
Let’s just say I’m glad this game was free. It’s an okay game to play if you’re making an extended trip to the bathroom (if you know what I mean) but it’s not one I would play any other time or go bragging to my friends about. At least the developer made an accurate comparison when they compared it to Paper Toss. They are both equally wastes of time and give little satisfaction by playing. If you need something to do while taking your daily constitutional, download this game. Otherwise, don’t waste your time.
