Written Android App Review
Mixers of the world rejoice! Caustic Android app will blow you away with its amazing music mixing capabilities. While some Android apps only have one keyboard to play with, Caustic comes packed with eight machines! Right now this version is just a demo so save, load, and export are disabled. However, the song you are working with will be saved between sessions. Thankfully, there is no time limit though so users are free to play to their hearts content. A full paid version is expected to be released within the next few weeks.
Caustic
Features:
Each keyboard or machine is available by scrolling on the left side of the screen – but scroll slowly! It is incredibly sensitive and takes a little getting used to when it comes to switching machines. Below is a list of the eight machines it comes preloaded with:
- 1x Virtual analog subsynth
- 2x PCM synths (23 demo samples included)
- 2x 303-like BassLine synths
- 1x Sampling drum machine (9 demo kits included)
- 1x Mixer desk with Delay/Reverb and 4 insert effects
- 1x Song sequencer
So essentially, there are four keyboards, all of which have a different part to play in making music and can be completely customized to sound exactly how you want. The drum machine will help you keep your rhythm and sound awesome. The mixer desk fine tunes the way the music sounds and the song sequencer helps put it all together. Everything is stored on the SDCard and WAV files can be imported for the synthesizers. I award Caustic five stars for Features and would award six if I could!
Fun:

Caustic
When I opened this Android app the first time, it was while waiting in the car with my children (don’t worry - we were parked, not driving). Once I began playing with the app, the kids (all four) got really excited and all wanted to take a turn playing on the synthesizers. Now I know this isn’t really a kid’s app, but I let them play anyway. Guess what? They had a BLAST and quickly figured out how to manipulate the sounds – and let me tell you, they made some crazy sounding sounds! I enjoyed playing with this app too and even made a song of my own. It probably isn’t very good, but I had fun making it so my kids and I give this app five stars for keeping us entertained until the building we were waiting on opened up. In fact, we were all disappointed to have to put it away!
Value:
As a free Android app, it automatically has value if it is any good. I am curious to see what the full version will cost and what other features it might have once released. But for now, I’m awarding 4.5 stars – the app loses half a star for its restrictions due to being a demo.
Ultimately, I believe everyone would enjoy this app – even those who aren’t great at mixing music. If nothing else, just playing with the synthesizers is entertaining! I will be anxiously awaiting the full version and plan to review it once it is released if there are any major changes or additions.

Great review. I can’t wait to test it out.
Hey thanks for writing this Angela, I’m the developer of Caustic and I’m really glad you enjoyed it and took the time to write this. (BTW, my little man loves playing with the keyboard sounds too)
I’m just putting the finishing touches on the paid features so it should be out real soon. There should be no surprises, a few tweaks to the sequencer interface, but mostly it will just add loading, saving and exporting of your songs. Stay tuned and thanks again.
