Written Android App Review

Every now and then you come across a Android game that is much more than just another time waster. One that pulls you in and leaves you hungry for more. It is the kind of game that lurks at the edge of your mind, making you reach for your Android device each and every time you find three straight minutes to string together. These games are rare, however, today I have found one and its name is Everlands.

Everlands is a strategy Android game, a puzzle game, an action game, and a fun story line all rolled in to one well developed and well delivered Android app. It is fun, it is catchy and it is deliciously intriguing. The only problem? Its too short!

Everlands

Gameplay

When I became immersed in the Android apps review, I was greatly delighted with the Android app. The simple way to describe this game is that it is based on the turn-based strategy model….but its also much more than that. With each level you are given a cast of characters to work with. Different animals of the Everlands, each with their own sets of strengths and weaknesses, are ready and waiting to do their part in the fight against darkness. Your job is to coordinate the battle, allowing the synergy of your group to prevail rather than leaving yourself to rely on the power of a chosen few. It’s a puzzle from beginning to end and one that leaves you with a smile on your face.

Design

The design? It’s great! This is a game that doesn’t take it’s self too seriously and is refreshingly lighthearted in its visual approach. The brief story sets between boards add to the overall look and feel of the game without dragging down your momentum or distracting from the game.

Another high note comes in the form of a well delivered app. Everlands did not freeze a single time during the review process, and in fact was quick to respond to any command or direction.

Fun Factor

So is it fun? It is! There are 20 levels to Everlands, each one a bit harder and more interesting than the last. It’s up to you to work your way through those levels and bring “light” back to the land. The animals are quirky and each one has their own personality. What makes this game so different is that it is much more than just where you place each piece. It’s when and how and who you place them next to. It’s how they get along with their neighbors and how they can use their quirks to improve the group as a whole. In truth, its hard to explain and even harder to put into words. Want to know what it’s like? Give it a try!

Value

Here is the thing about value for this game, it costs about $2.42 US (conversion rates….who can keep up with them!) and that is on the high side. The game is worth it….BUT….it needs to be longer. Even quite a bit longer. See, when you hit that 20th level, you kind of feel like you are just hitting your stride. Like things are just starting to rev up and suddenly the game is over. There needs to be more, especially if they want to justify the price. Other than that, and even in spite of that, Everlands is a great game and one that I would highly recommend.

Android Apps Review Details: Everlands app is $2.41. This app requires Android 1.5 and up. You may download Everlands from the Android Market.
