Written Android App Review

We’ve all seen the commercials and heard the “cloud” buzz. But how many of you have ever wondered what they meant? “Cloud” is a new and improved way to offer you remote access to your information. In short, as long as you have an Internet connection, you have access. Pretty simple right? Well, take that one step further, add in a mobile Android app and you have the new PocketCloud Pro. The idea here is that you can use your phone, or other Android device, to remotely access your desktop or laptop at any time. No matter where you are, or what you need, if you have the Cloud then you’ve got it. Sounds pretty intriguing, but let’s take a minute or two to learn more.

PocketCloud Pro

Functionality

Upon performing the Android app review, I found that their very watered down simplified version was quite easy. PocketCloud Android app allows you the ability to access any file or run any application on the go. It plays well with either Mac or PC and can work anywhere that you have a signal.

To me, this all sounded great, but I had to know that it actually worked, and that there were some real teeth to back-up these big claims. So, I loaded the Android app, went through the set-up process and then walked away from my computer to pull up a PowerPoint. Guess what? Worked like a charm! I had no problem either finding or viewing the file I was after and the program ran perfectly. Then, I spent a few minutes poking around my computer just to see if it was a fluke, but had smooth sailing from beginning to end. Two thumbs up!

Ease of Use

To me, this is probably the strongest feature that PocketCloud Pro has to offer, besides the fact that it works! An Android app like this could be highly confusing. It has the potential to be so over the top that only those users with in depth technical knowledge would have either a hope or a prayer of ever getting it to work. PocketCloud Pro is not set up this way. They bill themselves as being an option for users with “no technical know-how” and they are right. Simply follow their straightforward set-up instructions and you will be up and running (or logged in and hooked up as the case may be!) in a matter of no time! It was refreshingly easy.

Value

For this Android app, value is a big question and a big issue. It carries a hefty price tag at $14.99, and that is just the introductory price. But is it worth it? Well, my answer is a tentative yes. Tentative because this kind of Android app is only going to be worth it if it is something that you will actually use. If you spend a large amount of time on the go and find it cumbersome to tote around a laptop all day every day, then this may be a great option. If your just looking for something fun and new to take for a spin? May be a little on the high side.

  1. Great review! What do you think makes the pro version worth buying over the free version?

    • Hey Bob! To me the biggest difference is the security upgrade you receive with the pro version. Having gone through identity theft, this is an area that I am sensitive to and one that I feel is very important. Also the pro version adds the ability to integrate 3rd party apps into the picture. Depending on the user, this could be a huge deal. I’d say it is up to you as to which version would best fit your needs. It also may be a case of trying things out with the free version, then upgrading to pro once you know that it is something that you both love and will use.

      Hope this helps!
