Written Android App Review
News industry giant CNN brings breaking news and top headlines to Android with their new mobile app. Download the free CNN Android App and put the news at your fingertips anywhere you go.
Features
Let’s take a look at this Android app review and see if the CNN Android is worthy of your news feeding endeavors. The CNN Android app offers users headlines first and foremost. Top stories are automatically pushed to the main page. Scroll down to view CNN’s featured headlines or scroll to the right to view stories by subheading.

Android app users can save stories to peruse in the future by pressing the “Actions” icon in the upper right-hand corner of any story. Saves stories are available in the main user menu under “Profile” by tapping the “Saved” tab. CNN radio updates and videos are also available in this app.
The Android app is organized very similarly to CNN’s site. Unfortunately if you are looking for topics CNN deems less important, such as entertainment news, you’ll be scrolling for a while. You can work around this, sort of, by installing customizable CNN widgets that will take you directly to a certain news topic, such as World, Politics, Tech or Living. That seems like a roundabout way of accessing the topics that I am most concerned about. A simple search feature could alleviate a lot of user frustration, CNN. Get on that.
CNN’s iReport content submission platform is also present in the CNN App for Android Phone, making it extremely easy to submit photos and videos to CNN, scroll through user provided content or view assignments CNN is actively pursuing in the iReport community.
I’ll be blunt. CNN App for Android Phone is a news delivery power house that loses points for poor organization and lacking a search feature. It is also a limited source, with approximately 24 hours of coverage available at any given time. Instead of wrestling with CNN’s mobile page the next time ground breaking news occurs, a few simple taps will bring you face to face with the latest. That is how this app will truly shine.

Stability
Much like CNN’s mobile site, I foresee app stability varying based on the user load and network coverage. My Android Apps Review process took place on a balmy spring afternoon without much new news, and I did not experience a single issue with app stability. CNN’s App for Android Phone should free up their mobile site access in the next media heyday, so it was a smart move on their part. No complaints here.
Value
I expected a bit more from CNN when I signed on to review their CNN Android app. Sure, it’s a free Android app, but there are no personalization options, on top of the aforementioned concerns with layout and missing backlog of stories. In the end this app is coming off my phone. I’ll take my chances with their mobile site and keep searching for a more feature-rich news app that fits my priorities. Android users (including myself) know what great things mobile apps are capable of. Try again, CNN.
