Written Android App Review
Fire breathing dragons, water dragons, archers, mages, boss battles… these can all be found in Feelingtouch Inc.’s game, Dragon Hunter Android App. The goal is simple in this tower defense game – protect the castle. How? Fling arrows at it! But oh no, here comes a huge boss! Kill it with poison, ice and fire! Use wind to knock it backwards and confuse it momentarily. Gain coins and gather food from the dead dragons to stay alive. This easily addicting android app game may have you hooked for hours at a time – you’ve been warned.
Gameplay
Dragon Hunter
After spending a great deal of time with the app exploring the Android app review, I found our hero to initially start out with just a standard arrow but quickly makes it through the first few rounds without trouble. Once you have accumulated enough wealth, use it to upgrade a plethora of items in the game. Upgrade the castle’s hit points, reduce the cool down time on your specialty arrows, make your gatherer faster (and their boat), and more. Here are a few things I observed while playing:
- It is in your best interest to NOT kill the dragons immediately. Yes, that’s right. You should let the fire mongers live long enough to get closer to the castle so that your gatherer has time to get to the first few corpses and start gathering food from them. I made the mistake for a while of killing them the moment they appeared. The result? I almost ran out of food and thus almost lost the game. Oops.
- Focusing on upgrading the castle and boat/gatherer speed first is essential. Next, focus on getting the repairman. That little dude is a real life saver!
- I was initially confused when upgrading on how and when to start upgrading my specialty arrows. Why? Because the upgrade states it “Reduce CD [cooldown] Time of….” My thinking was, “Why reduce the cooldown time if I don’t have any specialty arrows yet?” Then it dawned on me. The next round I selected to upgrade my ice arrow and guess what – I suddenly had ice arrows! So let me save you the confusion and simply tell you that to get the specialty arrows, you first have to upgrade their cooldown times. Lesson learned.
- I started playing this game in order to review it and finally had to pry myself away from it an hour later. The sad part? I had no idea an hour had passed already. So, you’ve been warned! This game is highly addictive and will make you lose large portions of your day!
I am awarding Dragon Hunter 4.5 golden stars – it loses half a star for the confusion over the arrows.
Graphics
Dragon Hunter Upgrades
The graphics of the Android app game are mostly 2D and has the feel of a side-scroller game without the scrolling. You and your castle are situated on the left and the dragons attack from the right. They are not the most spectacular graphics ever seen and, in fact, have a sort of tribal cartoonish feel to them. This makes it a bit “cuter” and give it less of a “butt-kicking” feel, but is fun nonetheless. The arrows shoot smoothly, as do the mage attacks and each dragon has a health bar above its head that adjust appropriately upon being hit. Despite the somewhat cartoonish feel, I am awarding five stars for graphics.
Value
This is a Android game I would play to pass time during something I was forced to wait on doing – such as waiting in a long line, in a traffic jam, waiting at the Dr.’s office, on the toilet… you get the idea. Why? Because it provides the illusion of time moving normally when in reality much more time has passed than you think. So that 20 minute wait for the doctor might now only feel like five minutes. I can deal with that. For this reason and for being a free game, I award five stars for value.
