Written Android App Review

Technology is steadily streaming forward, especially on Android where open source code makes creating something new and amazing a little easier. Firefox has been a Web browsing staple for years, and their platform is constantly evolving. Now you can enjoy the perks of using new Firefox features without jeopardizing your existing browser by downloading Firefox Beta Android app. This low risk proposition made my Android Apps Review process easy.

Firefox Beta

Features

Existing Firefox browser users will find a familiar platform when using Firefox Beta for Android. All your favorite features are there. Users with Firefox 4 or newer on their computers can safely share their browsing history, bookmarks, saved passwords and currently opened tabs by configuring Sync in Firefox Beta. Your most-visited websites will still display on the launch page, also known as the “Awesome Page.” Even the add-ons you know and love will be available.

So, what exactly is changing? Firefox Beta users will be the first to receive new technology as it hits the mobile browser. For example, the May 23 release of Firefox 5.0 Beta was released to Firefox Beta users, but is still unavailable for regular mobile Firefox browser users. Improvements to Firefox 5 include quicker load times for images and improved mobile compatibility on sites. It also implemented Firefox’s Do Not Track feature in the mobile app, with varying success, and corrected several bugs in previous versions of the Firefox browser.

Firefox Beta users can enable error reporting and submit feedback with a few simple clicks. Tap “Give Feedback” at the bottom of the Firefox home page to submit your thoughts about Firefox Beta. These reports will help improve future versions of Firefox’s mobile browser. Despite Firefox 5.0 improvements, I still find the Firefox browser a bit slower than my Android’s standard browser, which is a little disappointing.

To summarize, Firefox Beta for Android is familiar, improved, feedback driven and easy to use. Sometimes “beta” apps can feel a little cheesy or pointless, or as though the developer is just trying to pull one over on you. Not so in this case. How refreshing.

Firefox Beta

Stability

I expect the occasional stumble from beta applications, but Firefox Beta is definitely up to the challenge. I opened a dozen tabs and loaded several videos, generally giving the browser a good, solid beating, and still didn’t see any force close errors. If being overworked slowed down the browser it’s something for me to take up with my provider for not giving me enough juice, not an issue with Firefox Beta so far. There is also a marked improvement in load time in this beta version of Firefox when compared to Firefox’s past releases.

Value

Firefox Beta browser for Android is free, as are all Firefox products. This kind non-profit group just really likes enhancing the Internet for others. So this Android app is as altruistic as it is solid. Free apps are great. Free apps that really pull their weight are priceless.
