Written Android App Review
Music on the go is not a new concept, but efficiency-hungry Android users are always on the hunt for faster ways to connect with their favorite tracks. Developer SoundHound Inc. has a new pared down version of their music searching wonder app called Hound. Tap and talk to be connected to a world full of music.
Hound
Features
While performing my Android app review I found out that Hound is an Android app with its own set of rules. Use the voice search feature to enter the name of any artist or song you’ve been hankering after. Odds are what you’re looking for is coming right up. I search for 15 different artists and tracks, and every time the first result was right. That’s pretty awesome. I do suggest speaking smoothly while using the voice search feature. A long pause between words in a band or song name may result in premature search results. Hound also supports old fashioned search by entering text.
Once you find your track or artist, you’ll be linked to an amazing amount of information. For artists, you can link to all their releases, peruse top songs, link to Amazon to buy tracks, view tour dates with the tap of a button, link to YouTube to view videos, connect with fellow fans and even connect directly to the artist’s Wikipedia page.
Oh, and all of that is on top of being able to listen to tracks right on the app. Individual track listings have lyrics, release information and more. Bookmark your favorites and share via Twitter or Facebook, too. In general, this app puts more information than you can shake a good-sized stick at in your hands in a matter of moments. I am thoroughly impressed.
Hound
User Interface
With all those features I sort of expected Hound would be a handful to navigate. I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn’t. The search feature is clean and easy to use. Results are organized by artist and song, so you’re not scrolling endlessly through one if you meant to search for the other. Results include album art or artist pics, making this page fun to use and the results you want easier to find.
Users may notice the little play symbol featuring in some of their results. This indicates music is included in-app for the track or artist, a very convenient feature presented in an extremely clear way. All additional features, such as the YouTube links and lyrics, are located on the song or artist page, not gumming up the results.
Value
We’ve already established that Hound for Android is all that and a bag of potato chips if you’re looking for your favorite music on the go. The app goes the extra mile by being free. Yup, as usual, gratis is good. I would be keeping this app in my line up with a handy shortcut installed on my second home page even if it wasn’t free, but it is! That makes my endorsement that much easier to make. Hound is awesome. Go get it.
