Written Android App Review
There’s nothing quite like the first bite of a perfectly cooked steak. Timing, skill, preparation and a little bit of love can take a steak from a mouthful of meat to a truly divine experience. Since they were founded in 1917, Omaha Steaks has conquered the beef market. Now their Android app puts ordering, cooking tips, recipes and more in the palm of your hand, at least until it’s ready to take that perfect first bite.

I found five major categories in the Omaha Steaks app while performing my Android apps review: “Recipes,” “Shop,” “Timer,” “Steak 101” and “Connect.” That sounds simple enough. Once I started digging this app proved that first impressions can be deceiving. The Omaha Steaks Android app is a mecca of useful information, tips, tricks and yummy steak goodness.

My favorite feature is the Timer. Users don’t have to buy an Omaha Steak, sign up for anything or even plan on it in the future to use an amazing steak timer, or any other features actually. To use the timer, input the thickness of the steak and your desired doneness. Add as many steaks as you would like to this timer by tapping the add button in the top right. Useful Timer widgets even allow you to look at pictures of the doneness to make sure you get what you want. There’s an option to adjust times for your grill or broiler if it runs hot or cold. Run your timers for a perfect time line. I cooked two, one-inch thick ribeye steaks to perfection with this, and I am an eternal convert.
All of the Omaha Steaks app features are like this, thoughtful, well crafted, useful and endlessly informative. The recipes area builds shopping lists for you. The “Steak 101” section is full of how-to videos, cooking charts, nutritional information and a dozen tips and tricks for making your steaks perfect. Shop for steaks and other Omaha goodies in the app and contact the company through the “Connect” tab. There are even dinner conversation suggestion cards. OK, I’ll stop gushing. But man, this app makes me happy, and hungry!

Navigation
Select one of the four main topics on the home page to navigate this app. After the home page, a bottom tab bar shows five areas (in a very tactful move the shop feature is not on the home page). This bottom bar will appear on most pages. The top right and left hand corners contain additional options that vary based on the page you are on. Navigation is easy. I never got lost and the app never stumbled.
Value
Omaha Steaks for Android is free. As I mentioned, you can use all of this app’s features without buying anything or even creating a log in. Obviously if you plan on ordering something, you’ll pay for it. Even in the shop, Omaha offers packaged deals, overstock items and a deal of the day. A free app with built in goodies is a value no matter which way you slice it.
