Written Android App Review
Android apps for productivity are not new. In fact, they are a dime a dozen. The thing to realize is that not all Android apps are created equal….especially in the world of productivity. Some are fantastic examples of engineering that sync seamlessly with your life making every moment easier and more organized. Others? Well, others are nothing more than black holes of time that do nothing to help you layout or plan your day. Which category does Springpad fall into? Let’s explore my Android app review and find out.

Springpad
Features
Springpad is designed to be a type of one-size-fits-all Android app to help organize your life. You can take notes, set alarms, scan barcodes, create notebooks, add flags, and generally customize this app to meet your every need. In fact, if there is one thing that I love about this Android app, its the variety involved. There really doesn’t seem to be anything that it can’t do. I also love how everything that is saved is automatically synced to both your Android device as well as the Springpad website. This means that you have access to your data anytime and anywhere.
However the overall best feature of this Android app is delivered in the form of notebooks. These handy files allow you to sort your data into categories that Springpad refers to as notebooks. Then, everything associated with that specific “notebook” is grouped into one easy to find location.
Here is the downside.
The learning curve for this app is steep. Not to mention there is a required login in process that can be quite lengthy. Once you get over both of these hurdles though, the Springpad app works fairly well. There was no freezing during the review process, however I did have to install the Android app twice for it to work properly.
User Security
This is the area that really concerns me about Springpad. If you look through the permissions listed when you download the Android app, many of them border on what could be considered malicious. I don’t like the fact that it has access to the camera at any time, nor do I like the fact that it has access to the phone features of my Android device. This means that Springpad Android app has the ability to collect audio, video and/or data at any time. Basically you are opening up your life to this app and just trusting that they will not take advantage of the open door.
Overall I feel that Springpad is a fairly good Android app, but these security concerns are enough for me to remove it from my device.
Value
This Android app does have value. It actually has quite a bit of value. It functions well and consistently delivers solid results. The problem is in the permissions. If this facet of the app doesn’t bother you, then go for it. If it makes you as nervous as it does me? Then as I said before, there are plenty of other productivity apps to choose from.
