Written Android App Review
Anyone remember what it was like to play Yahtzee? Well, then you pretty much know how to play the Farkle Android app. The two games are very very similar, with the biggest difference being that not only can Farkle be played alone, but also if you roll the wrong number, then your points are toast!
This game started as a Facebook sensation that has now made its way to your Android device. What we have to decide is if this new generation of Farkle is as fun and addictive as the original, and this Android app review will aim to answer this question.

Farkle
Game Play
Here’s how it works. You start each turn with 6 dice. Roll the dice and decide which ones you want to keep for points and which ones you want to keep rolling. 1′s and 5′s are always points while other numbers have to appear in special configurations (like sets and runs) before they are worth anything. If you are able to keep all 6 dice, then you are given a fresh set to keep rolling with and the points continue to add up.
The trick to it all comes from the name of the game. You do NOT want to roll a “Farkle!” Farkle is called when a roll produces no points. Roll a Farkle and lose ALL your points for the roll as a whole. Roll three Farkle’s in a row and lose 500 points off of your total score.
Ten turns to a game and you are going for the high score!
Functionality
At this point Functionality is the weak point of the Farkle Android app on two fronts. First, the game seems to have quite a few technical problems when relating to the Android platform. It froze and forced close several times during the review process, making it somewhat frustrating to play. When it worked, it worked great….it just didn’t work all the time.
Secondly, if you want to play the Farkle Android app, then you MUST have a Facebook account. There is no way around it. No account, no play. To me this seems to shut the door on any Andriod users who, for whatever reason, do not have and do not want this type of account.
Fun Factor
There is no doubt, Farkle is a fun (and highly addicting!) game to play. You are always reaching for that elusive high score and the Farkles seem to always hit at the worst possible times. Meaning that you are always yearning for just one more game! You always want to do better, to score higher and to beat not only your own best score, but also those of all your friends.
It is definitely fun!
But it needs to work! It needs to work smoothly and offer a consistent game play experience. Because at the end of the day, if the game is not good then the fun just isn’t there!
