Written Android App Review
As if you needed another reason to go green! PopCap completes its second Android app release with much pomp and circumstance, and zombies, of course. The irresistible game where the greenery fights to save your brains, Plants vs. Zombies, has now with the Amazon Appstore for Android.
Gameplay
I have a confession. After downloading Plants vs. Zombies for my Android app review I settled into a chair and literally lost track of time playing. My dog got dinner an hour late. My husband had to come remind me to go to bed. Who needs sleep? I was locked in an epic battle against zombies here! This game is seriously addictive and epically fun.
Ok, enough with the dramatics. In Plants vs. Zombies you populate your yard with zombie killing plants, collect sun points, and beat the crud out of any zombie who dares enter your yard. Oh, if only it was that simple. Zombies are getting smarter, so you have to get crafty. Start the game in “Adventure” mode which walks through a few basic tutorials and gets your zombie slaying skills honed. You’ll be a zombie smashing pro in no time.

Plants vs. Zombies
Earn achievements as you go. Beat “Adventure” to unlock “Quick Play” fun. Buy additional slots for seeds and expand your zombie fighting plant horde. My biggest gameplay suggestion is to always pause the game and restart the board if you think your defenses might be breeched. If a zombie sets foot in the house your brains, and your game progress, are goners.
Fun Factor
Is it fun to set pea-throwers, mushrooms and carnivorous plants on brain-eating zombies? You betcha. The colorful interface, hilarious soundtrack and progressive difficulty of Plants vs. Zombies make this app way more fun than it has any right to be. Pepper in some mini-games, such as bowling for zombies, a crazy neighbor selling goods out of his trunk and an ever changing zombie hoard and I’m hooked. If you don’t see any reviews from me anymore, you’ll know why.
I do have a teensy weensy complaint. Many people know and love this game from other platforms that shall remain nameless or from playing online, and I wish users weren’t required to unlock “Quick Play.” I always hate it when apps insist on babysitting users, and “Adventure” mode is no laughing matter. There are 50 levels to complete.
Plants vs. Zombies
Value
At launch Plants vs. Zombies is only available in the Amazon Appstore for Android. The retail price for this app is $2.99. On the launch day, May 31, 2011, Plants vs. Zombies was the free app of the day. And during an introductory period it is available for a reduced rate of $1.49. This app does not work on a surprisingly wide range of phones: Motorola DROID, Motorola Devour, Motorola Flipside, Samsung Transform, Samsung Intercept, HTC Aria, HTC MyTouch 3G, Sony Ericsson X8, Sanyo Zio, Kyocera Echo and LG Ally.
I’m a big fan of a sale, but even if it wasn’t on sale today I’d be buying it. This app is seriously fun, smart and addictive. Android apps rarely ask us to dump money into them to be entertained. In this case an investment is necessary. Go get it if your Android can swing it.
Android Apps Review Details: Plants vs. Zombies Android app is free. This app requires Android 1.5 and up. You may download Plants vs. Zombies from the Amazon Appstore for Android.
