Written Android App Review

Are you looking for a new (and fun) gaming challenge for your Android phone? Do you want a bit of rice, woodblock-cutouts, and raw fish included in that mix? If so, then step up to the plate sir: Sushi Slash Android app, by developer Palshock, has everything you’ve been waiting for.

Gameplay

After performing the Android ap preview, It’s this reviewer’s secret hope that Sushi Slash is based on an ancient Samurai party game, though odds aren’t good. However, the game is certainly a fun one, offering an innovative and entertaining mechanic for Android.

Sushi Slash for Android

On each level of the Android app you are given a wooden board in the shape of various objects, including stars, hearts, snakes, and fish. Each board is stacked with several different pieces of sushi, which roll around like loose cannons from one end of the board to the other. To complete the level, you’ll need to cut off a specified amount of the board without harming any of the sushi. To cut the board, simply swipe a finger across any single portion and hope for the best. A pair of chopsticks along the top mark your progress, and once you’ve reached the set amount, the game rewards you by passing you on to the next level.

The game mechanic is simple (though highly original) but offers a lot of intense fun. When large amounts of sushi and an oddly shaped board are involved, the game takes an interesting twist, demanding that you make brazenly quick swipes in an attempt to pass the level. It’s great fun, and well worth the time to learn.

Design

One of the biggest strengths in Sushi Slash’s favor is its excellent art style. The wooden boards look very textured and realistic, while the sushi look good enough to eat. A traditional silk-painting style background fills up the rear, and even the chopsticks along the top look well-baked. A lot of effort has gone into making this app look good, and it’s certainly paid off. The levels themselves vary from piss-easy to bloody-hard, which is another boon. This variation is spread across twenty levels for a wealth of slashing fun. However, I did encounter a few bugs in the actual slashing motion, as sometimes the game wouldn’t recognize my finger movements. Also, the app is ad-supported, though thankfully the included banner-ads stay out of view unless a new level is loading.

Overall Value

Priced at the ever-delicious zero dollars and zero cents, there’s almost no reason to keep Sushi Slash off your Android device. The game offers unique and fun finger-flicking gameplay for the platform, and is guaranteed to entertain all but the most hardened of gamers. With twenty levels, a great art style, and a fantastic price, Sushi Slash deserves a full recommendation.
