Once upon a time AAA was that service your parents and grandparents had. It was something that you never even thought about and, even more so, never realized you would actually use! How little we knew. Fast forward 20 years and we find that AAA has done a great job of updating their services with several helpful Android apps. While all of the options are great, today we are going to focus on the AAA TripTik Mobile Android app.

The AAA TripTik Mobile Android app is a HUGE update on the famous AAA TripTik. Now instead of an endless flipbook marked in highlighter, you get an up-to-the-minute map right on your Android device. The difference with this map is that it comes with turn by turn directions as well as handy information about points of interest along your route. I’m thinking that this isn’t your grandfather’s AAA!

Features

When it comes to features, this Android app is packed! And I mean JAM PACKED! There isn’t much that it cannot or does not do. Let me show you what I mean.

Here are a few examples of the features that you will be treated to with AAA TripTik Mobile:

- Gas station location and latest price information (Honestly! Up to date prices!)
- AAA Approved hotel locations and details
- AAA Approved restaurant locations and details
- AAA Approved attraction locations and details
- AAA Approved auto repair facilities
- AAA Approved campgrounds
- Events
- AAA office locations
- Calculate routes to AAA points of interest (POI) as well as user-entered addresses
- Voice guidance on your next maneuver at the press of a button or by shaking the phone
- Pinpoints and tracks your location and allows you to turn on POIs around you
- POIs are automatically updated as your location changes or as you move the map
- Provides route maps and turn-by-turn narrative directions to selected locations

Pretty impressive, right? Features are definitely not a weak point for this Android app! And, you don’t even have to be a AAA member to use the AAA TripTik Mobile. You will need to become a member if you want to take advantage of their roadside assistance, but the AAA TripTik Mobile Android app is yours for the taking.

Functionality

As to functionality, the app worked great! There were only two problems that I found, and both of those were more of an issue with design features that I did not love rather than functionality. First, the AAA TripTik Mobile Android app does offer turn by turn directions, it just does not speak them unless you shake your phone or press a button. I would like to see an option where the directions could be spoken without prompting.

Second, with all of the different AAA Android apps, it can be confusing to find the one you are looking for. It would be nice to see all of the functions integrated into a single app.

Value

The value here is great! In one easy to use Android app you are being given a huge amount of what AAA has to offer at no charge. It’s free! And, because it is free, this is one that I highly recommend to any and everyone. Give it a try and see for yourself. I think you might just be impressed.
