Written Android App Review
Go Directly to Jail! Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200! Who could forget those words? The ultimate hand slap to the forehead moment that killed your momentum and set you up to run the high priced property gauntlet all over again. Then there’s the railroads, the utilities, the community chest and of course!….the Monopolies! Can you tell that I love Monopoly? It is the best! The only problem is that no one ever wants to play with me and really its just no fun to play by yourself. (Trust me, I’ve tried it!) But now, with the new Monopoly Android app, I get to play to my heart’s content right on my very own Android device. In short, move aside Mr. Moneybags, cause there is a new tycoon in town! Lets get on the board with our Android app review.
Monopoly
Features
I guess in terms of features I’ll talk about what this Android App is supposed to have rather than what it actually does. Why, you ask? Well, because I could never actually get the game to open. But, we will cover more about that when we get to functionality.
The Monopoly Android app is supposedly designed to be a fun, interactive version of the game that we all know and love. What grabbed my eye in the Android Market was that the app advertised the ability not only to trade properties, but also to set your own house rules. I love that because we always played with a few extra rules (money on free parking, extra money if you land on Go) that are common, but not technically “by-the-book.”
Now, these features sound great, and they were the lure that reeled me into this new Android version of Monopoly, but if I can’t see them for myself, then there is no way I can rate them. 1/2 a star.
Monopoly
Functionality
Here’s the deal. The game didn’t work. It didn’t work because there is no “game” in the Android app. It’s a link. A link to a website where you can maybe play the game if you can get the flash player to load. Other than that, its just a bunch of ads that spam up the screen of your Android device.
Truly I cannot tell you how disappointed I was by this. I wanted this Android game to be great. To be something wonderful that brought me the game I loved on my Android device….but it just isn’t.
Fun Factor
There is no fun factor here. If I could give zero or even negative stars I would do it and never look back. But I did learn something on this review. I learned how important it is to pay attention to the little things. Things such as the fact that the image of Mr. Moneybags in the Android market is not trademarked or copyrighted. Neither is the Monopoly name. If this was the real game, then it would have to have both.
So what is this Android app? It’s a waste of time and effort that some developer has thrown up looking to make a quick buck. It won’t last long. Just long enough for Hasbro to track down the developer and slap on a lawsuit big enough to make them cry out for mercy.
