Written Android App Review

Just when you thought there could not possibly be any more room in the tower defense handheld game arena, the Swamp Defense Android app appears! Using a family of hillbillies, you will be faced with a terrifying array of cartoony swamp monsters invading your homeland. Swamp Defense Lite is available for free from the Android App Market and the Amazon App store.

Features

Swamp Defense Lite game play is pretty much your typical tower defense affair. When you start up a level and you’ll be given a pre-determined route for the enemy monsters to try and reach the swamp through. Along this path, you will have to place your troops to blast, smack, burn and shoot the invading swamp creatures. For every enemy you kill, you get a gold coins which you can spend on more troops. Obviously, the less effective troops cost the least while the most expensive are the most effective. Initially, you will be faced with a few small waves of relatively weak monsters, but they progressively get harder as the levels get higher.

Swamp Defense Lite

Your troops consist of a motley assortment of rednecks, hillbillies and other oddities. There are fry-pan wielding swamp women, bald fellows with pistols, farmers with laser guns, and more. The enemy’s consist of some truly creative beasts that range from the terrifying to the downright bizarre. You’ll need to carefully place your troops to get the most use out of them, especially in the tougher levels.

It’s pretty easy to figure out the game, even for someone like me who has not played many tower defense games before. However, there really isn’t any sort of tutorial mission in the beginning, which may cause some frustration for first-timer users of Swamp Defense.

Graphical Layout and Sounds

Swamp Defense has a fairly standard game layout. There’s a ‘start’, ‘statistics’, and ‘family’ sections. The graphics themselves are fairly decent and certainly creative. The monsters are pretty unique and the ‘family’ of troops at your command stands out from other tower defense games (hillbillies!). Some of the family animations are a bit stiff and could use a little more work, but that shouldn’t be an issue for most gamers.

Swamp Defense boasts a pretty upbeat soundtrack with plenty of action sounds for the different attacks and effects. The game and the sounds run really smooth, even at full blast with massive amounts of enemies on screen on an older Android device.

Value

Swamp Defense Android app has a lot of levels, including some very challenging one’s. It can be difficult to beat the later ones, even with a full host of troops at your command. It’s definitely not an easy game by any means!

Adding to the replay value is a “statistics” section that charts your game progress. It shows the number of enemies you have missed, killed, waves completed and more.

For a free tower defense game, Swamp Defense is pretty decent. There isn’t a whole lot to set it apart from other tower defense games, but it’s a fairly solid take on the genre. Fans of this sort of game app should give this defense game a shot, and see how they like facing off against all the swamp beasts!
