Gas Buddy allows you to search for gas prices(regular, midgrade, premium, and diesel) by city or zip code. In addition, with your GPS activated, you can simply tap the “Find Gas Near Me” button on the home screen, and all reported gas prices in your vicinity will be brought up automatically. Gas Buddy allows you to view gas prices via a list view or a map view. See a different price than the one reported? Simply click the gas station in list view or map view and update the prices.
Gas Buddy allows you to set your own default search settings: fuel type, distance, and show all stations (reported prices or not).As an incentive to Gas Buddy users, you can become a member for free and earn an entry for each price you report for a chance to win the $250 weekly gas prize give-away! All of these features make Gas Buddy an exceptional community-managed Android application.
Gas Buddy does fall short because it has not integrated a way to tag a payment requirement for a specific gas price. If you are like me, who only buys gas via credit card, you will be in for a surprise when you find out that the gas station with the lowest price is with cash purchase only. And yes, in time customers do learn which stations offer cheap cash-only prices, but for those who are still unfamiliar with those stations, Gas Buddy can pull a quick one on you. Hopefully, a future update will add this feature making this a perfect gas price search application.
Graphical Layout
Gas Buddy has a very simple and intuitive layout. I think the home screen could be designed more aesthetically, but that is a personal taste and does not affect the review of this application.Where Gas Buddy shines is in its gas price listings. In the list view, you have the convenient options of refresh, sort by distance, and map view at the bottom of the screen. At the top of screen you have quick tabs to quickly jump between regular, midgrade, premium, and diesel prices. The list view will not only the stations in the city or specific zip code you entered, but also other stations in a greater distance radius that may be still convenient for you Android Phone.
But even better yet, by clicking map view, you can view gas stations and their prices via pins on Google Maps! Not only will you see which stations have which prices, but you will know where each station is and how to get there.
