Written Android App Review
Time for a reality check. We all love our Androids. In fact, if you are anything like those in my circle, many of you can’t remember what you ever did with your time before you got that treasured first Android into your hot little hands. But! As much as we love our Androids, the devices do have their limitations. Such as the inability to play certain types of video as well as a kind of mental block against many of the games that we know and love.
And don’t even get me started on Netflix!
The good part about most problems, and about these in specific, is that they come with their very own solution. And, in this case, the solution may just be none other than the Splashtop Remote Desktop Android App. Splashtop Remote Desktop allows you to access your desktop straight from your Android device. Meaning that all the functionality you enjoy at your desktop can now be held in the palm of your hand!
Too good to be true? Let’s go find out!
Splashtop Remote Desktop
Features
The simple way to describe what Splashtop Remote Desktop Android app does is that it sync the screen of your Android with the screen of your home computer. Meaning that you feel like you are looking at a little mini version of the larger screen that you know and love.
Why would you do this?
Well, for a few reasons. First, there may be programs or files on your desktop that you need to access while you are on the go. The next reason would be that Splashtop Remote Desktop allows you to run programs that normally would not be compatible with your Android device.
Need an example? Well with Splashtop Remote Desktop you can sift through PowerPoint slides, access Outlook, watch movies on Netflix, play Facebook games, watch flash video and even work with Microsoft Word and Excel. And, you can do all of this without adding a single extra app to your Android device!
Sounds promising!
What I love about this is that there are no “hidden” costs. With Splashtop Remote Desktop once you pay your $1.99 the Android app is your to use as much as you want. This jumps out at me since there are similar apps out there that require either a subscription or other type of ongoing charge for the same type of service.
Functionality
In terms of functionality Splashtop Remote Desktop performed well, but not perfect. The only real problem that I had was that the Splashtop Remote Desktop Android app had a tendency to force close. It wasn’t constant, but it did happen.
The other functionality issue I would like to touch on relates to the actual operation of Splashtop Remote Desktop. When you are working with the Android app you have to be very exact with your touch screen commands. More so than when just working with your Android device. As I was working on a Droid X this got a bit frustrating. However I truly feel that this Android app is better geared to the tablet market and this issue may not be as visible on those devices.
Value
Is Splashtop Remote Desktop worth the $1.99 they are asking for it? Absolutely! The app worked well, was easy to set up and gave a nice overall user experience. Plus in that one moment when you desperately need a file that is sitting safe and secure on your desktop, it could be worth much more than just $1.99! So give it a try. With the addition of a single Android app you will significantly increase the overall functionality of your device and you might just have some fun along the way!
