Ah the joy of entertaining your children with Android apps. Do you remember coloring books as a kid? How about how hard you worked at trying to stay “in the lines?” I remember being super proud of my coloring book pictures after I successfully stayed (for the most part) in the margins and created a “masterpiece”, or so my mother said. These days, parents can plop their kids into the car, hand ‘em an Android mobile device and get them coloring away, without any messy markers, Crayons or coloring pencils. There are loads of different coloring book apps on the Android and really offer quite a selection for parents and their children. Need another one to try out? Coloring Book For Kids
Coloring Book for Kids offers a nice sum of 50 different coloring pictures along with a host of image editing features. Kids can choose from a paint brush tool, paint bucket, coloring pencils, eraser, zoom in and out button and more with this app.
Everything’s mostly handled with the on-screen touch device action and children can color their pictures many different shades with the tools included. Have to take the Android back to call for a dinner reservation? No worries! Just hit the handy save button on the app and you’ll be good to go. Your child can then reload the image (or you can for the younger ones) once they get the device back and finish off on their coloring project where they left off!
Graphical Layout
Coloring Book for Kids’ layout is not that spectacular. It is definitely one of the apps I would cite as an example of “typical function over appearance” Android apps. Too many Android apps appear this way and Comic Book for Kids doesn’t try to break out of this cliché.
Tool are arrayed at the top of the screen and are pretty obvious (based on their chosen icons) for what they are used for. The actual images are pretty simple and not all that impressive. However, for a children’s coloring book they are sufficient. It’s mostly a selection of cartoony, cheerful scenes and should provide some entertainment for young children.
Value
Coloring Book for Kids is a free app and certainly doesn’t hurt to try out, if you are looking for something for your younger children’s entertainment. However, it’s hampered by a buggy system, weak layout and overall poor design. There is an awful lot of images to keep your kids occupied with (50!), which is pretty impressive. Try it out if you need a coloring book app on the Android and have tried out other options beforehand.
