Written Android App Review

Android apps are fantastic - Android photo apps tend to be some of my favorites and the Lightbox Photos Android app lets you access pics from social networks, news providers and popular collections with an app that comes with its own special effects camera. If you’re ready to curate photos in a whole new way read on, this Android app review has it all.

Functionality

When you download Lightbox Photos two items appear on your phone, Camera by Lightbox and Lightbox Photos. The Lightbox camera can be used to snap a picture just like any other camera app. Tap the shutter icon and it’s a done deal. Once the picture gets taken things get interesting.

Lightbox Photos

There are 12 different picture filters you can instantly apply to pictures taken with Camera by Lightbox. Try one or try them all until you find your favorite. Additional picture options include adding a pic description, geotagging the photo, posting it live to your Lightbox.com wall (free with the app) and instantly uploading the pic to the social network of your choice (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or Foursquare).

The Lightbox Photos feature lets you auto sync pictures from your social networks right to the app. You can even tap a picture to like it or comment on it from Lightbox. Additional tabs include popular photos from Lightbox and a news tab with images from breaking news stories around the world.

User Interface

Lightbox Photos packs a lot of visual interest into a small space very well. The camera feature allows the user to enjoy optimal access to the screen with two minimally invasive buttons.

The only issue I have with the camera portion of the app is that it was not particularly clear how to get back to the regular Lightbox Photos app without closing it. The trick is to tap on the little camera roll in the upper right-hand corner.

Lightbox Photos

Lightbox Photos organizes pictures easily with three top tabs (Popular, My Lightbox and News) and three bottom tabs to help you navigate between your own photos, the general photo section of the app and back to the camera.

Ease of Use

With simple tap to navigate interface and a scroll to see more attitude, Lightbox Photos is extremely user friendly. Taking a picture is a snap, and perusing additional photos from friends, the news and other Lightbox users really couldn’t be easier.

Additional settings are tucked away in the menu. Tap your Android’s menu button and select settings to organize sync settings and manage your account.

Users do have to sign up for a free profile. The process is quick, easy and can be completed on your Android.

Value

In addition to all the great in-app fun you’ll be having with Lightbox, users get a free online page where they can view their uploaded pictures and peruse other Lightbox accounts. I think this is an extremely good deal for a free app, especially with the online storage.
