Written Android App Review
Are you looking for a bit of classic arcade fun on the Android platform? Want to fill your morning commute with buckets of zombie-originated blood guts and gore? If so, then Zombie Takedown Android app, by developer Osys, has everything you need to scratch that post-apocalyptic itch! It’s not a perfect game, but it’ll certainly kill several minutes in a queue—and hundreds of zombies, too.

Zombie Takedown
Concept and Gameplay
Zombie Takedown is a simple Android app, the kind that pays respects to its arcade predecessors with a marked plainness. The player is stuck at an unseen position overlooking a graveyard. Zombies appear while you wait, just begging for you to tap them and put a bullet in their overripe heads. The more you kill, the more hectic things get. You’ll also have to worry about shooting only the green zombies, as the yellow one takes health away when shot. It’s simple, classic arcade fun that will have you wondering where the quarter slot is. However, it’s not without its faults.
The game’s pacing leaves a lot to be desired. Zombie Takedown starts out slowly, which is good for beginners but may leave more experienced players anxious for the endgame. The end, by the way, is an all-out smashfest with a nerve-racking amount of enemies to shoot. This is where the fun starts. That being said, Zombie Takedown does plateau eventually: The game reaches a point where the pace simply cannot be quickened. Because of this, the gameplay can seem repetitive at time. A quick fix would be to add more levels, or even just different enemies. However, future updates could easily implement this, and Zombie Takedown is still sporting a lot of fun gameplay in the meantime.

Design and Graphics
Zombie Takedown’s interface could not be simpler: Pop a zombie on the noggin’ to send it back to Kingdom Come. The single included level is equally as simplistic. It’s worth noting that the game looks gorgeous on the better Android phones, and great on the less powerful ones. Though I poked and prodded hard, Zombie Takedown seemed bug free and hardly prone to lag, meaning it’s a fully baked app with a professional finish. Obviously, including more enemies and settings would have been a nice touch—and one to keep the player engaged—but the graphics and simplistic interface certainly stand up on their own.
Overall Value and Fun
Best of all, Zombie Takedown is one hundred percent free in the Android Market. For that low, low price you’ll get an excellent arcade-style shooter with heaps of blood and gore to keep you entertained. Don’t expect to spend hours playing Zombie Takedown, as its best suited for a quick jam on the tram. But with upcoming updates, there’s plenty of room for the game to be fleshed out—no pun intended.
