Written Android App Review
Here’s the setup. Its Tuesday….a dark, rainy day that leaves all hope of an outdoor picnic null and void for the near future. Now you are left wondering what you can throw together in the next 30 minutes that will be ready and waiting when the hoard runs through the door shortly after. All you have to work with is your Android and a deep seated need not to be chained to the kitchen for the rest of your natural life.
What do you do?
Run screaming in despair? Give up and throw Twinkies at your loved ones? Check out the new No Time to Cook Android app from Real Simple? Sounds like a winner to me!

The Real Simple No Time to Cook Android App is designed to offer you quick, well thought out meal plans when your own dinner time creativity tank is running on empty. It works something like this. First start by choosing the base ingredient you are working with. Pork? Pasta? Even Vegetarian, the options are all here, you just have to pick the starting point. Next input the amount of time that you have to get dinner on the table.
That’s it! Just two simple steps and the Real Simple No Time to Cook Android App will offer you tons of choices to fit your needs!
I love that the Android app is so straight forward and easy to use. But my favorite feature are the shopping lists. Once you choose your dish the Real Simple No Time to Cook Android app will give you a list of everything you need to make it happen. Then whether you are heading to the store or shopping from your own pantry, you know exactly what it takes to make this recipe happen.
What I don’t love is that there is no search feature. In other words, you get what you get and there is no way to just scroll through all the available recipes. Seems like a no brainier function and one that should definitely be included.
Also, there is no way to run a search based on the ingredients you have on hand. There are about 14 million ways to cook chicken. Just because I have chicken doesn’t mean that I have everything on hand to cook a random recipe that pops up on the Real Simple No Time to Cook App.

Functionality
In terms of functionality the Real Simple No Time to Cook Android app performed well, but it definitely didn’t blow me away. The app was prone to force close and it just didn’t seem to run smoothly. Also, I have a problem with several of the permissions that come stacked in the background. This app has no reason to Read State and Identity of my Android phone calls and it doesn’t need to add things to my SD card.
Actually, I was quite curious about that last one. Turns out that when you view pics of recipes they then get stored among your own personal pics. Again….is that really necessary?
Value
In an effort to be completely honest with you I’m going to come right out and say that I just don’t feel that the Real Simple No Time to Cook Android App is worth the hefty $4.99 price tag. It’s a good Android app, but its not great on any front and $4.99 is on the high side for any app. If I am going to shell out this kind of cash, then Real Simple is going to have to step it up and offer me something that I just can’t live without.
