Written Android App Review
For many of us penguins hold a deep fascination. Visit any zoo or aquarium, and the busiest room is sure to be the penguin room. If you’ve ever dreamed of finding a way to take that rush of admiration with you or of having a direct line to real penguin research on your Android today is your lucky day.
The Pocket Penguins Android app puts you front and center at the California Academy of Science’s African penguin exhibit. Get ready to watch your favorite black and white birds swim, dive, nest, eat and nap on their very own Android app.
Features
Twenty beautiful African penguins all the way from the California Academy of Science are at the heart of this Android app review. Researchers mounted three constantly streaming Web cameras in their expansive habitat. Turns out the penguins were naturals.

Pocket Penguins
Two topside cams pick up the interactions of this beautiful bunch of birds, including social interaction, grooming, nesting and so much more. My favorite part of this Android app? The underwater camera. There is something truly special about seeing a penguin gliding effortlessly with all the grace of an Olympic gymnast through the water.
In addition to giving you the best seat in the house, the Pocket Penguin Android app gives you a direct line to the exhibit’s Web site, complete with a blog where you can ask researchers questions and mobile ticket site if you want to go see your new penguin friends in person.
There is also an in-app donation button that will automatically compose and send a text donating $5 to help the California Academy of Science continue studying and preserving nature.
Educational Factor
Pocket Penguins
Personally, I think animals have a lot to teach us. I found myself stopping several times during my Android app review and marveling at the African penguins on my phone. Making these animals and their research team more accessible is a wonderful gift from the California Academy of Science.
Landlocked penguin lovers, such as myself, don’t always get the chance to see first rate exhibits and educational resources. Pocket Penguins Android app just took 1,000 miles off my commute to see penguins, and that ain’t half bad.
Optimal Viewing
While the three cameras do run perpetually, there is definitely a trick to catching the most penguin action on the Pocket Penguin Android app.
Feeding time comes twice a day, at 10:30 a.m. PST and 3 p.m. PST, and that is the best time to see a rush of activity. During most daytime hours however you can catch some under water action, and the top side cameras almost always have plenty of visual interest.
Personal viewing experiences in the Pocket Penguin Android app will vary based on your data connection. The app will run on your cellular network or over Wi-Fi. If the feed gets choppy blame your service provider’s signal, not the app.
Value
Pocket Penguin Android app is free to download and enjoy to your heart’s content, although I do think the donation button is appropriate.
