Features
Hangman Free offers two game modes: single or two player. With single, you can play against the computer. There are multiple game play settings offered for this, including three different word list difficulty settings, plus 6 other word list ‘types’ (animals, geography, etc). The computer is pretty decent and really can be a challenge at higher levels!
Two player allows you to take a seat against a friend in a hotseat match (pass the hangman game back and forth). It’s also well done and certainly makes this game perfect for long road trips or airplane flights.
Hangman Free
If you want to make this rather morbid game a little more child-friendly, you can edit the options and turn on or off the gallows. This is definitely a great touch on the part of the developers!
Graphical Layout and Sounds
I was fairly impressed with the polished layout, graphics and overall design of Hangman Free. The developers have obviously spent a lot of time making everything appear very slick and easy to navigate. Sounds are minimal but still add to the feel of the game, for the better. I love the child-like chalk sketch of the hangman figure used as the game progresses; it really feels like the old game I used to play in elementary school, complete with the sketchy artwork. If you get tired of the sounds, disable them under settings (along with the gallows, if need be).
Value
Everyone’s played at least a game or two of hangman, especially during their childhood school years. It’s a timeless game, with a rather grim premise, but with some great educational value. Optime’s excellent port of this fun words game to the AndroidOS is a wonderful one, and the free version is perfect for gamers looking to have a little board game fun on the go.
