Checkers comes with multiple game modes, including one player and two player. The two player option is set to allow you to pass the Android back and forth (hotseat style). You can choose the names of the players, and adjust which color moves first (or set it to random).
Under options in the main game menu, users can adjust whether or not Forced Jumps are required. Also, the sound may be turned on or off. Checkers is usually played without a soundtrack (except for your kid brother screaming at you for cheating), so I usually don’t play with the sound on.
The One player version is fairly smooth and setup is pretty similar to the two player version (choose name for your side and for the computer or go with the default, choose which color goes first, etc). The computer AI seems to be fairly competent. It doesn’t make obvious errors or too many stupid moves. It presents a decent challenge, even for players who have played the game before. Double and triple jumps are incorporated into the game, making for fun and exciting plays when things line up just right. Scrolling and tapping to move pieces is really quite smooth, with no apparent lag or bugs,

One thing that would be nice is an online multi-player option. However, the lack of this is partly offset by the excellent hotseat game mode.
Graphical Layout and Sounds
Graphics are slick and polished in Checkers Free. Everything looks fairly professional and the game pieces fit right in on the nicely illustrated board. Sounds are decent, with a few use sounds and game over/game won sounds at the conclusion of the game. The layout is easy to browse and really well done, showing off the developer’s professional skills in app design.
Value
Checkers Free is a fairly impressive board game app, for free, for the Android. It could use an online feature, but aside from that it is a very impressive game app. The overall design, layout and gameplay are excellent. What’s even better is this app is free to download! Try it out against the computer, or go head to head with the hotseat mode against your friends today!
