Written Android App Review
Android developer Majowski has really hit the marketplace hard with a load of ‘match ‘em’ games, many of which are free. Among the cutest of these matching games (styled after the classic Go Fish board game) is Furry Creatures.
Features
There are three difficulty settings for Furry Creatures for the AndroidOS; Easy, Medium or Hard. Tap one and you will be taken into the game for matching action. The main difference between the game modes is the sheer number of tiles to match. There are only a few tiles to match in the Easy mode, but Hard features a load of tiles for young gamers to match up!
You are allowed to tap on two different tiles before the tiles flip back over. You will need to use your best ‘go-fish’ skills to remember all the locations of the different cute furry creatures to match ‘em all up, especially on the harder settings!
Perhaps Furry Creatures greatest weakness is its lack of variability. Sure, it is a fun game for the first few minutes, especially for kids, yet this quickly wears off. The tiles to randomly swap after a game, but that’s about it.
Graphical Layout and Sounds
Developer Majowski has created some great graphics for this little free app. Users will enjoy the nice, cutesey tile images used to illustrate Furry Creatures. Basically, the critters shown are a mix of a Furby and an Angry Bird-style creature. They fit together nicely and are definitely really cute! The actual layout of the app is pretty simplistic, but easy for children to navigate. Sounds are pretty generic; just some beeps and chirps when items are matched and flipped.
Value
One thing I’ve noticed with Android apps is a large selection of apps with rather limited features. This is essentially the case with Furry Creatures. Don’t get me wrong, it is a fun app with some replay value for young children. However, it (and many other Android apps) feel oversimplified. Just adding an ‘options’ or ‘other games’ tab would make this little app feel slightly larger than it currently is. I was a big fan of the graphics in Furry Creatures, but it really could use a few more options to make it really solid. Maybe a different game mode (speed match, perhaps?) or other modes would be nice. Altogether, it is a interesting app and is free, so check it out if you like cutesey matching games!
